It was a stormy day outside when a youthful adolescent named Ubaldo Apolinar, hailing from Selma, California, heard scratching at his front door.
Upon investigating, he discovered a little puppy taking refuge from the downpour on his porch. Driven by a profound sense of duty and a wish to ensure the safety of the stray puppy, he attempted to bring it inside, but his parents wouldn’t permit it.
Nevertheless, this empathetic young man did not let that deter him from caring for the unfortunate puppy.
Shivering In The Rain
Noticing the forlorn puppy shivering in the rain, Ubaldo promptly fetched some of his own dog’s food to offer her.
“Initially, she pulled back a bit, but I kept approaching her, and once I petted her, she pretty much trusted me,” Ubaldo shared with The Dodo.
He was unaware of where this tiny dog originated, but as a dog owner himself, he desired nothing more than to assist her.
She still wore a pink collar around her neck, leading him to conclude that she was lost and her owners were searching for her.
He joined multiple community groups on Facebook and shared about the missing puppy, hopeful that the owner would come across it.
As he awaited a response, he ensured the puppy was properly fed and taken care of.
He even inquired with his parents about the puppy staying with them, but his parents denied the request. They already owned a dog named Rocky, and their landlord permitted only one pet.
“My sister and I spent time with her on the porch in the afternoon, and played with her […] I was concerned about her being outside in the chill at night, so I crafted a little shelter for her using an old cardboard box. But I couldn’t stop thinking about her at night, so I discreetly brought her in while my parents were asleep,” Ubaldo recounted.
He quickly took her to the bathroom where they played together while he endeavored to keep her quiet. He even fashioned a makeshift sweater out of an old sock for her.
“I found myself getting attached to her. I wished I could keep her, but I recognized the appropriate action was to return her to her owners,” Ubaldo expressed.
Finding Her Way Home
Ultimately, he was discovered by his parents, but it all seemed trivial because the following day, Ubaldo received a message from the possible owner.
“I received a request from a potential owner, and after a bit of online investigation and passing by her residence, her story was confirmed,” Ubaldo revealed.
The possible owner resided in Selma, CA, as well, not too far from Ubaldo’s home.
They arranged to meet the same day so he could return the dog to them.
“Just before I took her back, I played with her one last time in the yard with the tennis ball she loved, and I cherished the time we spent together. She was incredibly fun to hang out with and very energetic and charming,” Ubaldo remarked.
Eventually, the moment came to return the dog to her rightful place. The owner’s daughter emerged and informed him that the dog’s name was Bubba.
After all the hassle, Bubba was at last back home where she belonged.
Fortunately, Bubba doesn’t live far away, allowing her new friend, Ubaldo, to visit her whenever he wishes!
