Growing up on the streets is challenging.
For numerous animals, this entails losing all faith in their bipedal companions. This significantly complicates the efforts of compassionate humans trying to catch them and take them to a safe place.
More times than not, humans find themselves spending hours attempting to capture these adorable beings, and Lunch Lady’s case was no exception.
As a young dog who spent the majority of her life striving to survive, Lunch Lady roamed around the Louisiana SPCA. Securing her not only required time but also the collaboration of several staff members.
Take It Easy
Once they successfully brought her to their facility, the humans ensured to check for a microchip, hoping to find out if anyone was searching for a lost dog.
“She was examined by our veterinarian and cared for minor medical concerns. After a few days, since no one came forward to claim her, she received a microchip, vaccinations, and became eligible for adoption. She earned her name because she was such a lady and was caught around lunchtime,” stated Jessyca Sulfsted, marketing and communications manager at Louisiana SPCA, in an interview with The Dodo.
Even though she was apprehensive about her new companions, after a while, she began to feel better than ever!
Her timid demeanor started to dissipate, and she blossomed into the most affectionate, sweetest girl imaginable. It became evident to everyone that all she longed for was a new, everlasting home. Yet, she needed to go through some fundamental training first!
Canine Boot Camp
Since it is quite probable that she never experienced a home or family prior, the personnel at Louisiana SPCA needed to teach her some basics. The first of these was learning to walk on a leash.
“We quickly realized she would need some assistance,” Sulfsted remarked.
To inform everyone that this pup wasn’t exactly a leash-walking connoisseur, the humans opted to display a clear sign on her kennel stating, “Hi, I need help learning to walk on a leash.”

This meant that when a human would take her out of the kennel during the day, they would understand that they ought to practice some leash work.
Initially, Lunch Lady was uncertain about what was happening, so she would simply crouch down and walk like she was sneaking into the snack room. Fortunately, as time passed, she improved noticeably.
“She has exhibited considerable progress, and we’re confident she will become a pro very soon,” Sulfsted commented.
Lunch Lady would undoubtedly flourish in a home with energetic humans who will motivate her to continue evolving and learning every day. She enjoys lounging on the couch and cuddling through the evening.
