Numerous shelter dogs have been rescued from the streets as strays. Unfortunately, they have never experienced the warmth of a loving home. For these dogs, entering a shelter signifies hope that they will meet humans who will cherish them indefinitely.
Conversely, dogs that have been relinquished to shelters by their owners had to confront unanticipated and distressing alterations in their lives. They once had a home that was suddenly stripped away, along with affection, liberty, and attention.
Maxine endured such a situation, yet she did not allow it to dishearten her. This is her narrative.
In A Shelter Crate
In September 2022, Maxine, a one-year-old German Shepherd, was relinquished to the City of San Bernardino Animal Services, located in San Bernardino, California. Her owners surrendered her because she did not get along with their other dog.
“She was wonderful with everyone in the house, but the other dog did not like her,” remarked Melissa, the volunteer coordinator at the shelter.
Rather than being at home, Maxine found herself enclosed in a shelter crate, among unfamiliar faces. She longed for the affection and freedom that had been abruptly taken away from her.
Searching For Love
Shortly after her arrival, the shelter personnel observed that she was extending her paws through the crate and resting them in the hands of visitors. She yearned for love and craved the tender touch of a human hand.
Every time guests approached her crate to greet her, Maxine would become extremely enthusiastic.
In November 2022, a video was posted on the shelter’s Facebook page displaying Maxine wriggling in her crate and positioning her head as near as possible to the bars for visitors to pet her.
While they caressed her through the bars, she relished their embraces and licked the hands of her visitors as if to convey her gratitude.
Maxine never gave up hope that her fortunes would soon improve.
Her tale and her charming attempts to grasp visitors’ hands resonated deeply with many individuals.
A couple of weeks following the sharing of her story on social media, Maxine was adopted. Presently, she has a forever family, and there is no doubt that they will envelop her in hugs and kisses. They will hold her paws each day, allowing her to feel the love she has longed for.
Maxine’s joyful conclusion brought us immense happiness. We wish for all shelter dogs to find their forever homes and to live blissfully ever after.
