Aside from meals, embraces, and snuggling with his cherished human, every dog’s preferred pastime is grasping an object in his mouth and gnawing on it relentlessly. Within this apparently insignificant action, the canine somehow forges an emotional bond with the item.
This is particularly accurate for Labrador Retrievers who consistently seem to have an object in their mouth. Such was the case one day when a Lab and his owner encountered a stick during their stroll.
The dog immediately became enamored with the stick and believed it belonged to him from that point on. Regrettably for him, his owner had alternative plans for it, which put the dog on the brink of tears.
She Hurt His Feelings
On that day, while taking her Labrador Retriever, Basil, for a walk, his owner, Anna, also aimed to locate a stick for her creative project.
“The artwork was an initial endeavor at crafting a macramé wall hanging, created with special macramé cord and a stick I found in the forest near my home,” Anna shared with Newsweek. “I wanted to use natural wood to suspend the cord for this wall hanging, so, during a morning walk with Basil, I discovered and picked up this stick.”
Anna was thrilled that she had come across a suitable stick, but it never crossed her mind that Basil was also interested in it. Realizing that her dog had become infatuated with the stick and was fixated on it, she had to conceal it beneath her jacket to prevent him from swiping it.
She, however, did not succeed much because Basil’s fixation continued when they arrived home. While she crafted a macramé wall hanging at the table, Basil kept whining and attempting to get to his treasured stick.
Eventually, Anna managed to thwart all his efforts and complete her DIY artwork. She thought that was the end and that Basil would soon forget all about it. Unfortunately, she couldn’t have been more mistaken.
“When I was in another room, I heard him whining and went to check what was happening. And there he was, sitting in the bathroom lamenting over the stick in the wall hanging I had just placed,” she recounted.
It was undeniably a remarkable moment, and Anna couldn’t resist capturing it and sharing the video on her TikTok account, @basilionbrush.
