As they arrived at their workplace one summer morning, the Cuse Pit Crew (CPC), a nonprofit located in Syracuse, N.Y., did not anticipate such a challenging day ahead.
Learning that someone had abandoned their senior dog, Max, tied up in a park truly affected them, and they would carry that burden throughout the entire day.
By reaching out to the Syracuse Police and Dog Control, the team of rescuers convened at the park to provide this gentle boy with the assistance he so urgently required.
A Heartbreaking Revelation
As the Cuse Pit Crew champions responsible Pit Bull guardianship, witnessing Max so despondent, waiting for someone to finally rescue him brought tears to their eyes. Fortunately, a change was on the horizon.
“This morning, dear Max was abandoned, tied to a picnic table in Schiller Park, Syracuse, along with this note. We connected with Syracuse Police and Dog Control, who took photos and transported Max to the emergency veterinarian for treatment,” the Cuse Pit Crew shared in a Facebook update.
However, before they placed Max in their vehicle, they discovered a note affixed to a post nearby, which detailed exactly what had transpired.
The note stated: “I’m a good boy. I am 17 years old. My name is Max. My owners can’t care for me any longer. Please assist me!”
CPC reached out to the local officials to secure a temporary fostering arrangement for good boy Max, allowing him to finally unwind and recover. They also resolved to use this chance to emphasize that the entire situation could have been easily prevented.
“Max is not the first, nor will he be the last canine left behind in a park. We believe this could have been avoided if more individuals were knowledgeable about our services. We aren’t a rescue, BUT we will assist in problem-solving to the best of our capabilities. Our support will be non-judgmental because we want pet owners to feel secure approaching us for assistance,” they elaborated.
All Will Be Well
Later, the CPC informed us that, following his medical assessments, Max was received by the wonderful individuals at HumaneCNY, who found him a caring temporary home.
He is currently being treated for ear and eye infections as well as for his arthritis, but aside from those issues, this gentle boy is flourishing!
Max is relishing all the new care and attention being given to him. Since he is noticeably underweight, his new caregivers are ensuring he receives all the healthy and nutritious meals necessary to reach an optimal weight.
With time, I am confident that this sweet pup will grow strong and healthy, enabling him to find a loving forever home that will provide him with the joyful life he has always deserved. Best of luck, Max. Positive changes are on the way… I believe in it!
