When one spots a stray dog secured to a fence and left alone, the initial thought that crosses your mind is that humanity does not deserve these four-legged companions.
This is precisely what befell the 90-pound Pitbull, Trap, in Brooklyn, New York. He was deserted by his owner and left to fend for himself on the streets. Once the canine comprehended that his owner was not returning, he began to become stressed and uneasy.
Fortunately, the entire incident was captured on the surveillance footage of a nearby shop, leading to the assistance that Trap desperately required. Here’s the story…
Upon Being Discovered, Trap Was In Extreme Distress
After tying Trap to a fence, his owner snapped a photo of him and proceeded into the nearby shop. He even mentioned to the shop employee that “Somebody tied this dog up.” At that moment, the store owner did not realize that the unfortunate Pittie was his until he viewed the footage.
The individual who tethered his Pitbull escaped immediately after exiting the store, leaving Trap by himself. He gazed at each passerby as if he were pleading: “Are you my person?”
Upon witnessing the plight of this unfortunate Pittie on tape, the shop owner took Trap in temporarily and subsequently contacted animal services. Initially, he was extremely agitated upon entering the shelter…
Mr. Bones & Co. Offered Sanctuary
The team from Mr. Bones & Co. Animal Care Center, located in New York City, NY, acted swiftly. They welcomed Trap and conducted his initial medical examination, as well as providing him with a temporary refuge.
They quickly discovered that Trap was grappling with severe muscle atrophy and hip dysplasia, necessitating immediate surgical intervention. They coordinated for a comprehensive hip replacement operation, which unfortunately was unsuccessful.
“After this surgery failed, he underwent a second operation to restore his mobility. Following complications from that procedure, he underwent several months of physical rehabilitation. During this time, he also had dental surgery to address his neglected, decayed teeth,” shared the Mr. Bones & Co. team.
The silver lining is that Trap handled all these challenges like a superstar. His enthusiasm never wavered, and he was immensely grateful for finally experiencing a carefree life.
From A Foster Home To A Forever Family
Following several months of rehabilitation, Trap was moved to a foster home. His new foster mom, Kristin Nicole, was overjoyed to have him. Despite his large stature and a history of mistreatment, Trap behaved like a 90-pound lap dog around his new caregiver.
While the initial arrangement was for Kristin to be a short-term foster for Trap, the situation soon took a delightful turn for the better!
Kristin developed an affection for Trap almost immediately and resolved to adopt him permanently. She submitted a request for permanent custody after it was announced that Trap was open for adoption.
“We received a phone call from the woman who carried him when he couldn’t walk, fed him by hand when he was too heavily medicated to eat, and diligently practiced the home rehabilitation exercises, his foster mama, Kristin. She could not bear the thought of letting him go.”
A previously mistreated, anxious Pittie attained the happiest conclusion imaginable, and Kristin found her lifelong furry companion!
