So, how do I bid farewell
To someone who has been with me my entire life?
This lyric has never resonated more deeply than in the story of Jaimie and Goose.
Oh, Dean Lewis, are you a master of tears!
Even the thought of parting with my beloved dog stirs emotions within me. And I’m sure Jaimie experienced similar feelings regarding Goose that day, despite always understanding it would be a temporary situation.
He Was Family
Goose entered Jaimie’s world unexpectedly, yet he captured her heart as though he’d always belonged there.
When she applied to be a dog sitter, she could never have envisioned that this black Lab would turn into such a central figure in her life. The initial objective was to dog-sit Goose for three consecutive Wednesdays, but circumstances shifted rapidly!
Goose transformed into an indispensable part of Jaimie’s household, leading her to completely alter her plans.
Rather than caring for him for just three weeks, she and his owner decided to extend Goose’s stay in Jaimie’s residence – indefinitely!
“It evolved from him visiting every Wednesday to him staying with me for two to three weeks at a time,” Jaimie shared with The Dodo.
The rest, as they say, is history!
Goose and Jaimie quickly became inseparable, cherishing every moment of their lives together. They enjoyed thrilling walks to Central Park in New York City, met numerous new friends, had cozy cuddle sessions in their apartment, and even shared guardianship of a kitten.
Alright, Goose wasn’t exactly thrilled by the presence of Ciabatta, but he soon accepted that this tiny kitten was now his sister.
Additionally, the highlight was – he even gained a new canine sibling – a dog named Rooster.
“Goose is completely integrated into our family. He is the reason we adopted our own dog,” remarks Jaimie.
He was there during Rooster’s formative months, assisting him in socializing and mastering all the essential canine etiquette.
In two and a half years with Jaimie, Goose visited her parents’ residence as well as her boyfriend’s family’s home, meeting all her friends. Even though she always functioned as a dog sitter, that didn’t hinder her affection towards Goose. She treated him as if he were her own pet!
He was, without a doubt, family!
Until We Meet Again, Good Boi
Sadly, after two and a half years together, Goose’s father notified Jaimie that their family was relocating to Miami. They acquired a house there, complete with a yard and a pool exclusively for Goose.
Moreover, the most exciting part is – he no longer needs to be on a leash! Now he has ample room to roam freely, both in the backyard and on the beach.
While Jaimie’s heart was shattered by the announcement, she felt thankful for the time spent with her soul dog. She utilized the remaining moments with Goose to shower him with love and affection, fully aware of how much she would miss him.
In a heartfelt farewell video she shared, Jaimie bid her final goodbye to her best friend, assuring him that he would enjoy his new home!

“You’re going to swim every single day, and you’ll always have grass,” Jaimie mentions in the video.
“You transformed my entire life, my friend,” she continues.
However, Jaimie plans to visit Goose whenever she can. She maintains regular contact with his family, receiving delightful videos of him reveling in his new home.
Thus, it’s not truly a farewell! It’s more of a “until we meet again!”
