Dogs that are ruthlessly abandoned at shelters along with those who spend a significant portion of their lives confined within kennel walls are, regrettably, not a rare sight.
At this point, it is crucial to highlight senior dogs as many pet owners lose enthusiasm for keeping them while numerous potential adopters won’t even consider looking in their kennels.
It becomes particularly challenging for older mother dogs when they witness their puppies finding forever homes while being left behind in the shelter. Tragically, this scenario is not uncommon, given that the demand for puppies remains perpetually high.
This was precisely the situation faced by a German Shepherd named Star, just a few months subsequent to her abandonment by her owners at the shelter.
Pregnant And Unwanted
Star enjoyed a large portion of her life in a loving home with a canine companion and a family she cherished deeply. Unfortunately, everything changed after she became pregnant.
According to Star’s Web Page, she and her male partner were left at the shelter because their owners could no longer devote time to them. From that moment onward, Star and her companion had to carry on with their lives in a Maryland animal shelter.
Merely two days after being abandoned, Star went into labor and shortly welcomed five healthy puppies. Despite the shock of being without her beloved humans and the unfamiliar surroundings, Star demonstrated her prowess as a wonderful mother as she nurtured her babies.
Not long after, she and her pups were moved to a more suitable environment, an All Shepherd Rescue (ASR) situated in Baltimore, Maryland. There, knowledgeable German Shepherd specialists continued to care for her and her offspring.
Left Alone
Long before the puppies were even ready for adoption, interest had already begun to emerge. Consequently, when they reached two months of age, all the pups found their new families. Unfortunately, the poor mother was left behind alone.
Alongside the heartbreak of watching her babies leave one by one, Star had to deal with unresolved health concerns.
“Regrettably, Star’s previous owner neglected crucial aspects of her care, failing to spay her and provide monthly heartworm prevention,” her bio on the ASR website mentions.
They also stated that they took on the responsibility for her treatment and recovery, yet it was neither a brief nor simple process.
Nonetheless, Star did not lose her smile during these challenging times and continued to show affection to humans, even despite the betrayal she had recently experienced.
Hope For A Happy Ending
Individuals from this rescue organization in Baltimore, Maryland, are dedicating significant effort towards helping Star find a forever home. In her adoption biography, they have included extensive details about this incredible German Shepherd in hopes that someone will fall for her.
“Adopting Star means welcoming a devoted companion, an exceptionally sweet, amiable, and beautiful German Shepherd,” her bio states. “She greets every visitor without hesitation!”
Star interacts well with other dogs but can also thrive as the sole dog in the household. As mentioned earlier, she has a deep affection for people and would excel with active adults, as every GS thrives on physical activity.
Star is crate-trained, obedient, loving, eager to please, smart, gentle, balanced, and playful.
“By opening your heart and home to this wonderful dog, you’re not only offering Star the affection and care she deserves but also becoming a part of her remarkable journey towards a hopeful future,” it concludes.
