Similar to humans, canines find it challenging to deal with the loss of their family members. It may take them days or even months to regain their equilibrium, and even then, they still need a nurturing touch and plenty of compassion.
The most heartbreaking tale originates from Nuevo, California, where two dogs lost their owner due to a prolonged illness. These pups spent several days in their dwelling, snuggled on a couch, utterly heartbroken.
Their confusion left them without a plan or guidance, until a group of compassionate rescuers appeared!
A Heart-Wrenching View
A woman named Doreen reached out to Hope For Paws about Debby and Gidget – the two dogs abandoned following her friend’s demise.
Despite her good intentions, Doreen found herself unable to assist the dogs as they were too timid and frightened to emerge.
Katie McKittrick and Alex Babcock from HFP traveled for two hours from Los Angeles and finally arrived at the designated location.
Doreen informed them that the dogs wouldn’t exit the house. She attempted to entice them with food and treats, but they consistently waited for her to leave before emerging to collect the food.
According to Alex and Katie, given the circumstances, the dogs’ behavior was entirely understandable. Both Debby and Gidget were clearly still in shock from their loss and needed adequate time to begin trusting once more.
The rescuers cautiously entered the house and discovered the dogs snuggled up on a couch. Their expressions conveyed pure fear, but they remained motionless.
Katie cautiously approached them and employed a gentle snare to secure both dogs.
Once this challenging task was complete, the rescuers placed the dogs into separate crates and loaded them into a car. Doreen expressed immense gratitude to the compassionate team for arriving just in time and rescuing Debby and Gidget’s lives.
Relearning How To Trust
Following their initial care and examination, the dogs were taken in by the L A Animal Rescue team, who graciously agreed to foster them until they located a fitting home.
Initially, both Debby and Gidget shied away from any type of interaction, but after being given some time, they gradually began to emerge from their shells.
As their true characters began to shine, their foster parents recognized that Gidget held the role of pack leader. Debby remained close to her sister at all times, always depending on her. In essence, she served as Gidget’s personal guardian.
“Gidget is the more protective of the duo. She leads the pack and enjoys taking charge. Gidget is more expressive and hands-on. Once she gets acquainted, she is incredibly sweet and affectionate and loves giving kisses and cuddling,” the HFP team shared on their website.
Months into their stay at the foster home, both dogs transformed into the most lovable companions. They genuinely adapted to their new surroundings, indicating that they were finally prepared to meet their new guardians.
