Sora, a black Labrador Pitbull mix, originally arrived at Valley Animal Center – the largest no-euthanasia sanctuary and rehoming facility for dogs and cats in Fresno, California, after her former owner relinquished her nearly four years ago.

Since that time, the lovely Sora has unfortunately not received much attention from prospective adopters.

Until recently, an individual visited the shelter, making it seem as though Sora was finally destined for her forever home. To everyone’s delight, Sora was indeed adopted, but sadly, she was returned in less than 24 hours.

Adopted After 900+ Days At The Shelter

According to the Valley Animal Center, Sora was brought to them in July 2021 after her former owner acknowledged that she required more attention and training than they could provide.

“Sora is a charming pup with abundant energy. She perfectly suits any family that lives an active lifestyle. Sora is the type of dog you’d want to take on long strolls or cycling excursions; believe us, she can keep pace. Regrettably, Sora has been housed in a kennel for nearly four years,” the shelter shared on their Facebook post

Although Sora is an incredibly sweet and affectionate pup, she has spent nearly four years at the shelter without garnering much interest from potential adopters for some unknown reason.

So when someone inquired about her at the shelter, everyone was ecstatic at the prospect of her adoption.

Sora was overjoyed, thinking she had at last found her eternal home, but unfortunately, her joy was short-lived.

The morning following Sora’s adoption, the owner contacted the shelter expressing their desire to return her. Sora’s aspirations were once more crushed, and the poor pup was utterly heartbroken.

“Sora did not have sufficient time to adjust in her new environment and was exposed to new family members too swiftly,” Sim Kaur from Valley Animal Center informed Newsweek

One can only imagine the emotional turmoil this unfortunate dog must be experiencing, especially after having spent 900+ days behind bars.

Despite her shattered heart, the shelter remains optimistic that there is an individual out there who can piece together her broken spirit and provide a lifetime of joy to this precious girl.

As one might expect, residing in a shelter can never replicate the joy a nurturing family can offer to a dog.

While shelters strive to give the dogs ample mental stimulation and love, it often falls short.

Almost four years spent in the shelter has regrettably taken a toll on little Sora, who has developed anxious tendencies.

“According to our accredited dog trainer, Mariah Prudhume, if she could be placed into a loving household, her mental well-being would significantly improve. With care and patience, she would not be the reactive dog she is presently, and she would finally transform into the joyful and playful companion she is meant to be,” Valley Animal Center stated in their Instagram post.

She is a stunning dog who simply deserves a genuine opportunity.

Sora is still seeking her everlasting home and a person who will love and treasure her, but most importantly, one who will never abandon her again.

She is affectionate with adults and children aged five and above, but needs to be the only pet in the household and requires a family willing to commit time to train her.
