Being forsaken can be an alarming ordeal for a pet. When JJ was taken to the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas, without any explanation from his owner, he was utterly horrified.
Just envision being a companion animal whose entire existence revolves around you, only to abruptly find yourself in an unfamiliar environment with no understanding of the situation. That’s precisely what occurred with a dog named JJ.
Upon arriving at the shelter, he was distinctly terrified, trembling, and curled up in the corner of his kennel. It was genuinely heartbreaking to witness him in such a condition.
Paralyzed By Fear
A three-year-old little boy named JJ was in urgent need of a foster home, as he was struggling to cope in the shelter setting.
After being surrendered by the individual he cherished most, JJ felt utterly lost and terrified. The fear caused him to tremble continuously.
“THIS is the reality for a dog abandoned by its owner. TERRIFIED. SHAKING. COWERING. JJ is completely frightened as all that he has ever known is NO MORE. This poor dog is so anxious, having no idea of what lies ahead,” a Facebook page ‘Houston & Harris County Animal Volunteers’ expressed in their post.
After watching the video and realizing how disoriented and fearful JJ was, Big Love Rescue, based in Cypress, Texas, made the kind choice to save this charming pup.
Fortunately, they quickly succeeded in getting him out of the shelter and organizing a foster home for him.
Upon reaching the foster home, JJ was still paralyzed by fear, shivering, and completely bewildered. He was hesitant to enter the house or explore the yard, but his fosters displayed remarkable patience and understanding.
They honored his need for distance, allowing him to decompress and gradually begin to trust.
Even though he remained quite fearful of everything, JJ gradually began to open up as days passed. Letting his foster parents give him some head scratches marked a significant milestone, sparking a glimmer of hope that he would be alright.
JJ’s Journey Home
During his stay at the foster home, they learned that JJ is a very loving little guy who adores to cuddle.
“JJ is a joyful pup wanting to be near his humans, enjoy playtime with his toys, and receive lots of belly rubs. He gets along well with men, women, and ADORES children. JJ is a lapdog who will snuggle up in your lap after a day of fun. It’s incredibly cute. He is well-behaved and understands several commands, such as sit, stay, lay down, and shake. He walks EXCEEDINGLY well on a leash and is crate trained,” Big Love Rescue detailed in their post.
Even though JJ is an exceptional family dog, it took him some time to discover the ideal home. Given the distressing experience he had endured, JJ was lacking in confidence and needed someone to assist him in blooming into the affectionate companion he truly is.
Luckily, following months of searching, JJ ultimately discovered his forever home.
He is absolutely flourishing with his wonderful parents and his canine best friend.
While JJ’s journey concludes happily, it’s crucial not to disregard the initial bewilderment and fear reflected in his eyes when he was callously abandoned by his former owner.
Every day, thousands of pets endure this heartbreaking ordeal, and not all of them are fortunate enough to discover a forever home.
