Among all locations in the U.S., Orange County, California, is likely one of the most “pet supportive.” In the hearts of its residents, abandoned animals hold a unique significance, and they treat them with compassion.
A day seldom passes without cheerful news regarding a saved dog, cat, or another creature in this county. This instance was no exception when Arturo Flores and Lou Dora, members of a feline care group, noticed a scared head peering from behind a post.
Even though they quickly realized it was not a cat but a dog, that did not deter them from assisting this unfortunate animal.
Heartlessly Abandoned
As this region is industrial, Arturo and Lou were puzzled about how this unfortunate dog ended up there. It wasn’t until a worker at a tire shop in Irvine, California, divulged the actual events that the truth was uncovered.
“The individual employed at [the] tire shop said a vehicle arrived and abandoned her,” Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy Dog Rescue, stated on Facebook.
This revelation struck Arturo and Lou deeply, but soon after, they realized another heartbreaking truth. This canine remained stationary in that single area during her time there, and it swiftly became apparent why this was the case.
“The spot she occupied after being discarded from a vehicle was likely the only patch of grass in the area,” Hall commented. “[She was] so gentle yet so frightened.”
Only there her paws were sheltered from the blistering asphalt heated by the blazing sun.
However, that was not the most sorrowful aspect of this entire episode. When they discovered that this dog, sitting immobile in that very spot, continually gazed into the horizon, they understood that she still clung to the hope that her cherished family would return for her.
Regrettably, that moment never came to pass, but these wonderful individuals were determined to alleviate her suffering at least a bit and provide her with a new opportunity for life.
Ultimately Surrendered
Determined to rescue this pup but uncertain how to proceed, Arturo and Lou opted to contact the specialists at Logan’s Legacy Dog Rescue (LLDR) for assistance.
Upon hearing the details, Suzette Hall from LLDR hastened to the location. Despite her numerous attempts to coax the dog, the poor girl remained so traumatized that she refused to move even a single paw.
Consequently, Hall had to devise a different plan. Recognizing her evident hunger, Hall constructed a humane trap filled with several delightful treats. Unsurprisingly, the pup ultimately relented.
“This little one was extremely hungry,” Hall shared. “Oh my, did she savor her food …”
Moments later, this dog was secured in the crate, and the crate was secured in the vehicle heading toward a fresh start.
Fresh Opportunity
Hall understood that the rescue was merely a step towards a full recovery and that numerous hurdles remained for Bean, the name she chose for the pup.
Nevertheless, she was determined not to abandon this dog, so she first transported her to Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California. Scabs discovered across her legs and ears signified that this unfortunate girl had been surviving on her own for quite some time.
The veterinary team did everything possible to nurse her back to health, and gradually, Bean’s joy began to resurface. The highlight of her journey was finding a new foster home, where she received an abundance of affection and kisses. That became the most crucial aspect for her at that time.
“She adores cuddling and is incredibly sweet and grateful,” Hall informed The Dodo. “And she enjoys embracing her foster family.”
While she is still in recuperation and has yet to find her forever home, Hall is optimistic that spirited Bean will have a joyful ending.
One thing is certain: they will never allow her to walk again except on the lushest grass imaginable.
