How can one bid farewell to someone they cherish, ever?
The response is: you don’t!
Even in the bleakest moments or if you’re completely convinced that you won’t encounter your favorite individual again, you hold onto the belief that love endures eternally.
At least that’s what Canela would express if she had the ability to converse!
Recently, this grief-stricken pooch had to part with her most challenging farewell when she bid an emotional adieu to Vaca, her closest companion in the universe.
Their final video together is truly heartbreaking, leaving the entire internet weeping!
Heartbreaking Moment
The duo has quite a history and has been companions since their youth. Vaca, at the age of two, was first discovered by her current caretaker, Natalia Alvarez, while she existed as a chained dog in harsh circumstances.
She was in dire condition, undernourished, and existing in filth. Two years later, Vaca’s caretakers introduced Canela to provide her with companionship… and the pair continued living in chains together.
Natalia devoted years to befriending the owners of Vaca and Canela, alongside her mother. Her primary ambition was to assist the unfortunate dogs in experiencing a new life, and she ultimately achieved it.
Countless days spent feeding them her school lunches and tidying their kennel led her to realize her dream – Vaca and Canela’s owner ultimately did the right thing and entrusted the canines to her.
Remarkably, Vaca effectively took on a maternal role towards Canela. She guarded her, educated her on how to socialize and interact with people, and became her ultimate comfort.
“I rescued them together and Vaca was like a mother to Canela,” Natalia remarked in a TikTok post.
Prior to Vaca’s presence, Canela had never been properly handled by a human. Everything she is aware of, she learned through her older sibling.
“Canela was never touched by a human until I rescued her with Vaca. Canela only goes on walks if Vaca joins too. It took years for her to trust us enough to be picked up without panicking. The sole reason she felt allowed to trust us was Vaca,” Natalia expressed on TikTok.
Tragically, after over ten years in a caring home, Vaca fell ill. In 2020, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, yet she persistently battled against the odds. Due to her incredibly tenacious spirit, Alvarez dubbed her “a miracle dog.”
That was until June 2024, when, at the age of 19, she could no longer fight.
Vaca spent her remaining days resting motionlessly on her beloved red bed, getting ready to cross the rainbow bridge.

Her heartrending adieu to her beloved companion soon became viral, moving thousands of individuals all around the globe to tears.
“Canela understands… Animals are significantly more intelligent than we assume,” one commenter noted.
“That conclusion on the red bed… That one shattered me,” another added.
Still Attempting To Discover A Way To Move Forward
Now that her sister is gone, Canela is struggling to seek a path to continue her existence. She remains profoundly sorrowful and finds it challenging to engage in any activities without Vaca.
“Canela is exhibiting signs of despondency…Canela is an incredibly gentle dog who has undoubtedly endured much in her earlier life and witnessing her mourn Vaca pierces my heart.” Natalia expressed.
Natalia is committed to doing everything possible to assist Canela in moving forward. However, for the time being, she is solely focused on being present for her furry friend.
One thing is certain – Vaca will eternally reside in Canela’s recollections. And, although she is no longer by her side, this four-legged companion will never cease loving her!
