While a Good Samaritan was strolling with his dog through the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary in Connecticut, they were startled by some unusual barking emanating from the forest.
Choosing to explore further, they stumbled upon an overlooked five-year-old canine tied to a tree by his collar.
Noticing he was a remarkably calm and well-mannered pup, the Samaritan released him and took him to Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter (TRACS), a facility located in South Windsor, Connecticut.
Introducing Obie
Although the pup’s collar bore his name, Kobe, the shelter personnel opted to give him a new name, hoping it would assist him in moving past his troubling history and facilitate the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
So, meet Obie, a charming canine in search of a loving family who will appreciate and adore him as he rightfully deserves.
The TRACS team commenced posting his pictures on their social platforms, wishing that someone would notice him and present him with a nurturing environment.
Unsurprisingly, with his undeniable cuteness, Obie garnered the attention of numerous compassionate individuals who began reaching out to the shelter, ensuring he was well provided for – and it was no shock to them when they found out he was receiving excellent care.
“Kobe received a bath today, and as you can see, he is starting to fill out! His eyes are nearly healed, and he is learning good behavior and personal space. He is enjoying all the affection from everyone who meets him. While he remains hesitant around men, we believe that will improve with time,” the Connecticut shelter commented in a Facebook update.
Obie was prescribed medication that effectively resolved his eye and skin irritations. He underwent a comprehensive veterinary examination, was neutered, received vaccinations, had blood tests conducted, and was microchipped.
Seeking A New Home
After ensuring he had ample time to unwind, was in good health, and felt joyful, the shelter declared him ready to become part of a new family.
“Obie enjoys receiving affection and is absorbing a lot from his weekly training sessions. Obie deserves to be the center of attention, and we are optimistic about finding the PERFECT home for him,” the shelter indicated in a post.
Additionally, they mentioned that Obie feels uneasy around men and would ideally thrive in an all-female household. He experiences notable anxiety and is still mastering leash etiquette, but overall, he is thrilled to be part of a family and is determined to be the best boy possible.

Former Owner
In a different update, the South Windsor Police Department issued a statement revealing that Obie’s former owner, a 26-year-old woman, has come forward and was apprehended.
The police department noted that she faces charges of animal cruelty and tethering a dog to an immovable object. She has been released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks.
