Every canine has a preferred plaything, and Chance certainly is clear about his!
This Golden Retriever from San Diego has had a plethora of stuffed animals he has interacted with since his puppy days, but one specific toy from the heap has consistently been his top choice.
Being conscious of this, his owner wished to surprise him with a larger version of it, but what began as a simple surprise evolved into something far grander!
Chance’s Preferred Toy
Shannen Standiford, Chance’s guardian, is keenly aware of her dog’s fixation with one particular plaything – a small holiday-themed pickle. For some unknown reason, Chance has always had a fondness for this toy, even though it originally belonged to his late feline sibling.
He would consistently attempt to claim the pickle for himself when the cat wasn’t observing. And, when that kitty sadly crossed over the rainbow bridge – Chance never let go of that toy.
Aside from his affectionate mom, it’s fair to say that Chance is infatuated with his pickle. It stands as his top favorite toy in the universe, and he genuinely carries it everywhere.
He lounges with it, admires the sunset with it, takes naps and sleeps with it, and essentially engages in all activities possible with it!
Unlike other soft toys that he would usually shred with his teeth, he merely nibbles on this one as if he were munching on corn on the cob.
And, when he’s not doing that, he simply showers it with affection or carries it in his mouth, as if the pickle were his closest companion!
Thus, his mom took it upon herself to expand her dog’s “pickle collection” and add a few more to the heap!
It all commenced as a spontaneous notion when Shannen noticed several larger versions of the exact holiday pickle at pet shops. She intended to surprise her dog while ensuring that he had additional pickles just in case he tore them apart.
“He genuinely has so many little ones that he declines to destroy. He just lightly tosses them around and nibbles them,” his mom posted on TikTok.

One day, Shannen spotted the oversized version of Chance’s beloved pickle at Petco, and her heart delighted instantly!
Without a moment’s hesitation, she bought it to surprise her Golden Retriever pup. Once she returned to her California residence – she was met with the most genuine reaction ever!
The moment he glimpsed the gigantic version of his cherished toy, Chance’s eyes instantly sparkled! He promptly seized the pickle within his mouth, dragged it to the couch, and commenced the “ritual.”
He began munching on the toy in the same manner he did with the original version, and he carefully placed his head on it. Shannen realized that this one, too, would soon become an essential part of his collection, and she was thrilled to have acquired it.
Chance is immensely proud of his pickle collection. Now that he has another addition, he simply couldn’t be any happier!
Nonetheless, it appears that his oldest holiday pickle – the one he “snatched” from his feline friend – is, unquestionably, his utmost favorite!
