Many of us are somewhat apprehensive about visiting the physician. Blood tests and numerous medical assessments are things that give us all the chills. Furthermore, the time spent waiting outside the doctor’s office is arguably the most distressing moment.
Similarly, dogs experience anxiety while anticipating their appointment with the veterinarian. The fur of most dogs bristles in anticipation when a trip to the vet is on the agenda.
Nonetheless, there are also some more courageous canines who can maintain their composure in the waiting area. A few even manage to watch their favorite shows and relish the moment as if nothing is amiss.
Calmly Enjoying Her Favorite Squirrel Show
Akira appears to be a typical canine. This Golden Retriever enjoys all the things other dogs adore – playing, snuggling, and cherishing time with her human companions.
Yet, there was a particular (and extraordinary) trait that Mel Cies, the hospital administrator of VCA Panther Lake Veterinary in Washington, witnessed one day firsthand.
While she was waiting for her turn at the vet, unlike the other dogs, Akira was exceptionally tranquil and even delighted in watching her favorite squirrel videos on her dad’s iPhone.
“In my 7 years of experience in the veterinary field as a hospital manager, I have never encountered a dog so serene at the veterinarian!” Cies shared during an interview with The Dodo. “It was absolutely marvelous!”
This moment was so remarkable for Cies that she couldn’t resist capturing the moment on video.
Squirrels Always Made Her Happy
News swiftly circulated throughout Washington and beyond about this Golden Retriever who sits comfortably while awaiting her veterinary appointment and enjoys her beloved squirrel show.
The public was eager to learn more about her and understand how a canine could be so relaxed and poised before visiting the “infamous” vet.
Consequently, Akira’s father, Darin Beam, disclosed in a conversation with The Dodo that indeed, one of her preferred pastimes is observing squirrels in the backyard, which renders her completely unresponsive to anything else at that time.
Upon realizing this, Darin thought of finding her an abundance of squirrel videos to enjoy, particularly during moments of anxiety or discomfort.
“Whenever we need her to remain still, we show her a squirrel video,” Beam informed The Dodo.
Naturally, this dog’s days aren’t solely filled with watching squirrel videos. She also relishes spending moments cuddled up with her parents in the yard.
“Akira has truly been a gift!” Beam remarked. “My wife can’t envision life without her anymore!”
Nonetheless, while she shares many traits with her canine kin, unlike them, she will be remembered as a dog who possesses no fear of the vet and has a “genuine” reason for it!
