Despite the efforts of animal shelters to offer their creatures love and comfort, it can sometimes be more challenging than it appears.
Numerous animals are unable to flourish in a packed setting because they need more dedicated affection and attention.
This highlights why foster homes play a crucial role. They present a serene environment where dogs can engage socially, receive greater attention, and heal more effectively from any prior trauma they might have endured.
Evidence of this is found in today’s narrative where a precious little puppy rediscovered the joy of life, all thanks to her compassionate fosters.
Introducing Holly
While visiting the Dallas Animal Shelter, a woman named Janae encountered someone truly remarkable.
An adorable stray rescue named Holly was among the shelter’s inhabitants. Although she was profoundly malnourished and unable to see from one eye, this beautiful pup caught Janae’s eye.
“She was not running up to the window like most dogs usually do in hopes of gaining attention. I asked the volunteer if we could simply take her outside to allow her to get some fresh air and spend time with her,” Janae informed GeoBeats.
As the volunteer moved closer to assist her out of the kennel, Holly was overcome with fear as soon as she spotted the leash.
To get her outside, another volunteer had to lift her and carry her to the yard.
Nevertheless, once she experienced the fresh air, Holly’s joy was unstoppable.
“Once we were outside, she began racing around, thrilled to be out. There was another dog across the yard, and they could spot each other through the gate. She started play bowing and expressing the desire to play with him,” she continued.
However, her jubilation was about to be cut short.
Due to the shelter being at capacity and her injury, the Dallas shelter classified her as unadoptable and arranged for her euthanasia.
“I called my husband and said, ‘She doesn’t want to return there; she cannot stay here. I’m really sorry, but we need to bring home another foster,’” Janae expressed.
A New Beginning
Immediately after departing the shelter with Holly, Janae took her for a grooming session to get a bath. After she was all cleaned up, they headed straight to a Dallas pet store to pick out some adorable toys.
However, upon arriving at Janae’s home, she felt a bit anxious.
In her initial days at her new foster abode, she would only hide away in a corner, avoiding the outside world.
Fortunately, it didn’t take her long to emerge from her shell.
Janae and her spouse had previously adopted dogs, so when Holly met them, she was ecstatic to have wonderful companionship.
“They assisted her in realizing that we were safe and that our home was a secure environment for her,” she mentioned.
Holly now loves to spend her time outdoors with her dog siblings, engaging in games of tag throughout the day. Additionally, she enjoys being a couch potato, snuggling with her humans on the couch whenever she gets the opportunity.
Permanent Home
After a year of fostering Holly, Janae and her husband grew increasingly fond of her.
They recognized that considering her precious nature, Holly deserved to be part of the most ideal family. And that is precisely what occurred.
“This adoption is a million percent worth the wait for the most wonderful family. Her amazing new owners discovered her on Facebook and reside in Washington state. They lost their beautiful dog earlier this year, sweet Georgia, who was a DPA Alumni,” Janae shared in an Instagram post.
Holly is now finally where she was always meant to be – a part of a loving family that cherishes and adores her wholeheartedly.
Good girl, Holly!
