Regrettably, not every canine enjoys a life filled with love and comfort.
A significant number of them are fated to endure extremely tough circumstances, deprived of warmth and affection, forced to survive on leftovers and rainwater.
Moreover, even when these dogs are finally rescued by a caring human, it often takes an extended period for them to comprehend that there’s no malice intended and that their saviors are simply there to assist.
One such canine was a stunning PitBull named Ruby who, after living in a forest for years, was quite reluctant to trust a human who wished to help her.
Doggo In The Woods
When a lady named MaryAnne stumbled upon a fully grown dog living alone in the woods, her heart shattered upon witnessing the condition she was in.
The pup, Ruby, was so emaciated that her bones were completely noticeable.
She attempted to get closer and bring her in, but Ruby permitted her only a couple of pats before vanishing back into the forest once more.
“I knew there was no way she would survive the winter as frail as she was,” MaryAnne shared with The Dodo.
With limited time, MaryAnn was resolute in her mission to earn the trust of this frightened dog and assist her in gaining some weight before the harsh winter months arrived.
One Step At A Time
From the moment she discovered her, MaryAnn began venturing into the woods daily for several weeks, bringing Ruby delicious food and reassuring her that there was nothing to fear.
Nonetheless, Ruby would only come close to her to snatch the food. Once she took it, she would retreat to her “safe spot,” as MaryAnn described it.
As spring unfolded, MaryAnn noted improvements, yet it was not until early summer that she succeeded in coaxing Ruby out of the woods.
“It took a few months for her to come to me repeatedly,” she recounted.
This dedicated dog rescuer was overjoyed upon witnessing that Ruby mustered the courage to venture all the way to her backyard to collect her tasty meal.
After that, she was even able to spend about twenty minutes sitting with her, speaking in a soothing and gentle tone.
MaryAnn’s next objective was to place a collar around her neck, and fortunately, this task turned out to be considerably simpler.
“I think she was beginning to feel like a dog. She was starting to comprehend what love truly meant,” MaryAnn expressed.
At last, Ruby began to enjoy herself.
Feeling Like A Puppy
Due to her unfortunate past, Ruby never experienced joy and excitement, which is why she had no clue what a ball was.
MaryAnn dedicated days to her, tossing a ball and awaiting the moment Ruby would grasp what she was supposed to do with it.
After a few days, Ruby finally understood and became the happiest dog imaginable!
She adored running after her new favorite plaything and pleading with her human to toss it again. In that moment, Ruby blossomed.
She would stand at the edge of the forest, anticipating MaryAnn to emerge and call her name so her day could truly commence.
Yet, she remained cautious about coming into the house.
“Many of her followers requested that I simply take her inside. She just wasn’t that type of dog. She continued to harbor a deep fear of constraints and confinement. She needed to proceed at her own pace,” she mentioned.
When the day Ruby finally entered the house arrived, MaryAnn could hardly restrain her joy. Not just because of this minor act but also because such a timid dog permitted her into her heart and recognized that she only wished to assist.
Final Word
Ruby was not the only one rescued in this narrative. By giving her the affection and care she had always deserved, MaryAnn discovered a newfound purpose in her life.
I would like to extend my gratitude to MaryAnn for her unwavering determination and patience with Ruby, and I am thrilled that everything concluded as it was meant to.
