Saving a timid, homeless dog that has had no favorable encounters with humans is far from simple. However, once you gain their confidence and demonstrate what a caring bond can resemble, there are no words to articulate those feelings of happiness.
Upon noticing Dobby during their journey to another rescue, Selina and Jen instantly halted in their tracks.
At that moment, Dobby, the dog, appeared severely neglected and was completely devoid of fur. The two understood they had to assist, but the rescue endeavor was anything but straightforward!
Relearning Trust
When Selina and Jen initially encountered Dobby, he was wandering the street in search of food. As they approached, he bolted to a construction site where he attempted to conceal himself from possible threats.
Given his extraordinarily shy demeanor, Dobby had endured unpleasant experiences with humans. Thus, when the seasoned animal rescuers attempted to move closer, he fled as rapidly as possible.
The following day, Selina and Jen returned to the location with a strategy!
For approximately four hours, they attempted to coax Dobby out of a confined tunnel where he was hiding. They provided food and waited, but he remained too frightened.
“It was extremely stressful, he resisted so vigorously to escape from us, not realizing who he could trust in this world,” Jen shared on Instagram.
He would emerge only briefly to snatch some food, then swiftly retreat. Subsequently, the rescuers turned to plan B. They reached out to a professional dog catcher who ensnared him with a net in a matter of minutes and placed him in a crate.
For the first few moments, Dobby desperately tried to break free, but after awhile, he settled down. Jen and Selina transported him to the veterinarian, where he received treatment for his skin issues, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Incredible Change
It took just moments for Jen to understand that Dobby was meant to be her dog! As soon as they completed their vet visit, she adopted him and welcomed him into her family.
During the first three weeks, Dobby was resistant to bonding with his new owner. He remained very timid and frightened of everyone, so he spent a significant amount of time hidden under furniture.
Jen patiently awaited the day he’d finally emerge from his shyness, and then, 21 days later – it occurred!
He gradually began to emerge from his shell as he recognized that his new home was a safe haven. Step by step, Dobby underwent a total transformation, evolving into an affectionate lovebug.
“I couldn’t pet him for 21 days. It was an incredibly slow journey. At times, I doubted we’d reach this point. But we did, and I am so grateful every day that we paused to rescue him. He’s a true delight, so full of love,” Jen expressed.
He eventually began to interact with his new mom and his new canine siblings.
It turns out, all he truly required was the tender care of a human and someone to afford him ample time to acclimate to a new setting. After weeks of efforts to bridge that gap, Dobby gained so much more!
He finally acquired a nurturing home and someone who assisted him in restoring his trust in other humans! After the tribulations he’s faced, Dobby has now transformed into a fresh new boy ready to welcome his new life with open paws!
