After spending months within the limits of a shelter without attracting anyone’s attention or discovering a permanent home, Reece’s distressing ordeal has rendered him immobilized with anxiety, causing even the most basic movements to appear daunting.
Reece is not the only one facing this challenge – he is merely one among countless dogs who, after an extensive period in the shelter, confront the heartrending consequences of kennel stress.
For a young puppy like Reece, such experiences have a profound emotional impact, leaving them frightened, bewildered, and striving for a better existence.
Frightened, Isolated, And Bewildered
Reece, a seven-month-old German Shepherd mix with a stunning black and tan fur coat, found himself at Riverside County Animal Control Shelter, in Jurupa Valley, California, after being located wandering the streets completely on his own.
This 28-pound canine arrived at the shelter at the close of September 2023, and sadly, since that period, he has failed to attract any attention whatsoever.
Regrettably, the prolonged stay in this setting has affected this young pup, and Reece has begun to exhibit indications of kennel stress.
“Reece was taken into our shelter on September 30 after being found wandering the streets. At that time, Reece was having difficulty learning to walk on a leash and was hesitant to engage with people. As a puppy, we were optimistic about seeing a change in Reece’s behavior. However, Reece’s social skills seem to remain a problem for him in the shelter environment currently,” Kerri S. Mabee, deputy public information officer at Riverside County Department of Animal Services, informed Newsweek.
After 50 days, Reece had become the shelter’s longest inhabitant, and regrettably, he was placed on the euthanasia list.
This little one desperately required a hero to intervene and save his life.
Rescuing Reece’s Life
The Instagram account, “Saving Riverside Shelter Dogs”, dedicated to rescuing urgent dogs at risk of euthanasia in Riverside Shelter, California, promptly took initiative and shared an emotional video pleading for assistance for Reece.
“Reece has completely withdrawn after being overlooked for 50 days. He is so terrified that he won’t even move in the play yard. HE IS JUST A BABY! Frightened, alone, confused… We are imploring someone to rescue his life & provide him a wonderful life moving forward,” the volunteer-operated page expressed.
