When you are a young dog who has been confined in a kennel for an extended duration, the situation can become quite overwhelming in a matter of moments.
Due to this anxiety, many dogs tend to retreat, shy away from others, and even refuse to eat.
Additionally, Romeo, a stunning German Shepherd with the gentlest gaze, began exhibiting a behavior that caused great concern among those around him – he started spinning incessantly.
Assistance Is Available
Upon arriving at the Los Angeles shelter, Romeo was fairly composed and generally kept to himself. Nonetheless, as time passed, Romeo began to revolve in circles within his kennel, adamantly refusing to halt.

“He was close to being euthanized due to his loss of appetite. I simply made a call for help on my TikTok and a lady named Jessica responded saying, ‘We want him’,” Kelsey shared with The Dodo.
Once Kelsey noticed that someone was willing to take Romeo in, she hurried to the Los Angeles shelter, picked up the dog, and commenced her journey to his new residence.
Despite Romeo feeling a bit apprehensive during the entire car journey, he did something wonderful – he ate!
“I had a handful of food and he gobbled it straight from my palm. He was famished,” Kelsey remarked.
The delicious meal certainly assisted Romeo in regaining some of the energy he had been lacking, enabling him to express to his new mother just how thrilled he was to embark on his new adventure.
Returning to Previous Behaviors
During the initial twenty minutes at his new abode, Romeo was a transformed dog. But unexpectedly, he resumed his spinning.
“I let him out, and he began to spin. Like, uncontrollably. I contacted the vet, and they believed it was merely a high level of stress from his time in the shelter,” Jessica explained.
They decided to take him outside and engage in a small play session, hoping it would provide a distraction.

Regrettably, it didn’t yield the desired results.
However, Jessica came up with the notion that perhaps playing with a ball would help him stop. The moment he spotted a ball rolling towards him, all he could focus on was pursuing it and catching it in his mouth.
“We were like ‘Oh, wow, okay!’ There is something that can assist him, redirect him,” she stated.
Since they couldn’t engage with the ball indoors, Jessica had to devise an alternative distraction that would be equally effective.
Fortunately, Romeo was a very clever dog who followed every command from his humans. Thus, whenever he would begin spinning inside the house, Jessica instructed him to lay down, and he complied instantly.
Finally, Romeo was able to begin relishing his life without the incessant spinning, which had made him extremely dizzy.
“Romeo is unequivocally a member of my family. He’s genuinely wonderful. He’s so well-trained at this stage that it’s no longer an issue,” Jessica concluded.
Concluding Thoughts
Existing in a cramped environment in a noisy shelter is far from simple. Numerous dogs behave differently, yearning for the day when a caring human would come along, recognize their plight, and welcome them into a warm, loving home.
Romeo was one of the fortunate ones, but many other animals are presently in the same situation he once faced.
Please open your arms and homes to adopt this kind, furry child. They truly deserve it!
