A canine can bring immense joy into our lives that it is sometimes hard to fathom how some individuals can be so heartless towards these defenseless beings. Despite everything – neglect, maltreatment, and forsaking of dogs continue to transpire every single day.
Individuals from Animal Haven – an animal refuge in New York, encounter this on a daily basis, but nothing could have equipped them for what they were about to witness.
Two youngsters discovered a forsaken dog beneath the Manhattan Bridge and promptly transported him to their location. Upon seeing the dog firsthand, the staff were utterly stunned.
He was so frail and generally in such poor condition that they were uncertain if he would endure. Nevertheless, they were resolved to do everything possible to guarantee that this unfortunate canine achieved a joyful conclusion.
Challenging Recovery
Prior to taking him to the animal shelter in New York, these two compassionate girls wrapped the dog in warm blankets. This act demonstrated that there are still individuals with genuinely generous hearts who are ever ready to assist those in dire need.
However, they could not offer more than that, thus the ongoing care for him was assumed by Animal Haven staff and volunteers. Fortunately, he was truly in safe hands.
“So we brought him inside,” Nicole Chan, the marketing and communications director at Animal Haven, informed The Dodo. “We first placed him on the floor. And we just examined him and you could tell that everyone was so heartbroken.”
Even though he was quite literally skin and bones, Timmie, as this dog was named, began to meander around a little. The individuals at the rescue center were greatly surprised, but they also recognized that this was the clearest indication that Timmie would not give up so easily.
Nevertheless, they hurried him to the emergency veterinarian clinic, where the doctors confirmed what they already suspected – Timmie was in dreadful condition.
In addition to being malnourished, “the veterinarians concluded that some of the many lacerations on his skin strongly indicated abuse – analogous to cigarette burns.”
“On top of everything, Timmie was also diagnosed with pneumonia,” Animal Haven stated on their Facebook post.
Given his circumstances, the veterinarians immediately communicated to the shelter personnel that Timmie would need to remain in the hospital for an extended period.
However, even though his future was unclear, Timmie gradually but steadily recovered. Along that path, he received assistance from remarkable veterinarians, shelter staff who visited him daily, along with kind individuals who contributed financial support for his treatment.
Thanks to all these benevolent spirits, brighter days were finally on the horizon for this dog.
New Chapter
Timmie spent 36 days in the medical facility before he was prepared to be released. While there remained a long journey to complete recovery awaiting him, he made a crucial initial stride.
Once he exited the hospital, Timmie returned to the shelter where the staff embraced him warmly. However, he did not remain there for long.
Per Animal Haven’s Facebook post, they received a multitude of offers to foster Timmie, enabling them to easily secure an ideal temporary home for him.
“Allison emerged from the woods,” Nicole recounted. “We were simply like, “We hope this results in a foster failure!”
Although they were initially uncertain about what would unfold, every sign pointed towards a joyous conclusion. In a remarkably brief period, Allison and Timmie formed a strong bond and became inseparable.
“From the very start, he wouldn’t stray from my side,” Allison stated. “Whenever I sat on the couch, he’d leap up on the couch and be right beside me.”
More quickly than anticipated, Timmie’s health started to enhance, but more significantly, he was healing emotionally. In spite of everything he had experienced, Timmie was once more a joyous dog and exuded uplifting energy.
Almost everything in his life finally aligned.
Joyous Conclusion
After several weeks alongside his foster mother, Timmie finally received the most joyous news. He officially became a “foster fail.”
“After three weeks of having him, I could not envision at that moment bringing him back and allowing someone else to adopt him,” Allison expressed. “It’s like, “OK, this makes sense. This works.”.”
On the day of adoption, Allison chose to revisit the place where it all began. Upon taking Timmie back to the premises of Animal Haven, the staff were ecstatic to see him again.
They were thrilled, but also proud of what this dog had transformed into, fully aware of the state he had been in not so long ago.
In their latest Facebook post about Timmie, they expressed gratitude to all those who contributed in any form to these cherished moments. Ultimately, they concluded this uplifting narrative with phrases that undeniably bring tears of joy to the eyes.
“Engaging in animal rescue is frequently challenging, yet unimaginably fulfilling,” they wrote. “When animals such as Timmie come through our doors, it can make you lose hope in humanity. But joyful conclusions like these render everything rewarding.”
