This unfortunate female canine endured her entire existence on the streets – with agony and distress for survival being her everyday reality.
She was on the brink of surrendering when two compassionate individuals came to her rescue. This pair has saved numerous dogs in their lifetime, yet there was something about the expression in this dog’s eyes that utterly shattered their hearts.
She had never experienced what it was like to be cherished, to be taken care of, or even stroked… yet a more luminous future was awaiting her.
Mija’s Rescue Narrative
Brady Oliveira and Alex Blumberg were informed about this dog on the street in dire straits by a friend who had witnessed her wandering about.
When they arrived to save her, a single glance at her state made their hearts heavy. She was incredibly undernourished, skeletal, hairless, and practically on the brink of death.
“All that was visible was skin and bones. She resembled a Gollum/dinosaur-elephant baby,” Alex and Brady conveyed to The Dodo.
She appeared to be frightened of everything and everyone; however, after a few moments, she thankfully permitted Brady to lift her.
She bore a look of utter despair in her gaze.
“She undoubtedly existed like that for years and years, but it seemed she only had a few more days remaining,” Brady remarked.
The veterinarian provided no positive updates. She was profoundly undernourished and dehydrated, her blood analysis was alarming, she suffered from a severe case of sarcoptic mange, and her teeth were completely decayed.
This dog required extensive veterinary attention, treatment, and care; thankfully, they managed to collect her later that evening and endeavored to keep her alive.
“The vet kept referring to her as ‘Mija’, which translates to ‘my girl’. Brady frequently says to me, ‘oh, my girl’. Thus, I thought, ‘that’s her name, Mija’,” Alex stated.
The Greatest Rescue Transformation
The moment Brady and Alex brought Mija to their home, they fell utterly in love with her. Their intention was to foster her until she was strong enough to be adopted.
However, given Mija’s perilous state, they faced a lengthy journey ahead.
During the initial days, Mija was incredibly fatigued and drowsy, but she eventually felt secure. “She had no understanding of how to cuddle, or engage in any activity that a dog typically does,” Alex noted.
They would take her for walks on the beach, yet she remained so frail and weary that she would cease after merely a few steps due to her lack of energy.
Ten days later, she finally had a small burst of energy and ran.
“People believed we were crazy at the beach. I would be crying my eyes out the second she took her first little dash,” Alex mentioned.
Witnessing her run for the first time after all she had endured was truly moving for her rescuers.
After nurturing Mija for two months and dedicating all their energy, effort, and affection to her, she was finally in a condition suitable for adoption.
Her coat had regrown, and she appeared to be a wholly different dog. Just observe how remarkable she looks now:
“It was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives to witness her transformation into a dog. Arguably one of the most challenging farewells with a dog we’ve rescued. We promised her a good life and we upheld that promise. Mija was ADOPTED and is deeply loved by her new Mom!” Brady shared in her video.
I genuinely hope that Mija’s future is filled solely with love and joy from this point onward because she truly merits it.
