Unfortunately, numerous dog caretakers fail to show affection and support to their dogs during their most challenging times.
Peanut Butter experienced feelings of abandonment from her family during the toughest chapter of her existence.
Her owner released her to Alton, IL Animal Care and Control following her escape from a horrific dog attack. Peanut Butter’s family was reluctant to address her wounds.
Profoundly traumatized, Peanut Butter was relocated to Metro East Humane Society (MEHS) in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Receiving Assistance
The pup was brought to the clinic.
As the veterinary team was assessing her on the surgery table and evaluating the severity of her wounds, Peanut Butter kept her head lowered.
Her eyes brimmed with tears. The pup was still in astonishment.
“She was traumatized and in total shock when she arrived after undergoing all of that. She was practically motionless on the surgery table during her initial clean-up and examination….” Mady O’Reilly, a volunteer and foster caretaker at MEHS, shared with Newsweek.
The dog avoided eye contact with the rescuers.
The veterinarian and medical personnel felt deeply saddened to witness Peanut Butter so sorrowful. The compassionate individuals attempted to console her, yet the pup remained unresponsive.
The team tended to the pup’s injuries and rendered her urgent medical care.
Her right paw was harmed. The numerous puncture wounds she had on her neck resulted in swelling, and her choke collar had become trapped.
Once the rescuers returned Peanut Butter to her kennel, they removed her choke collar with bolt cutters.
The dog couldn’t conceal her despair and heartbreak.
Rather than being at home with her guardian, Peanut Butter was cowering in the corner of her kennel. She was engulfed by the clamor of the shelter.
Joyful Existence In Foster Home
O’Reilly couldn’t bear to see her turn into a despondent dog, so the kind-hearted woman brought Peanut Butter home to foster her.
She and her family provided the dog with ample time to relax.
O’Reilly couldn’t contain her tears of joy after witnessing Peanut Butter peacefully sleeping in her bed, wearing a smile.
“…She made the cutest snores from her tiny gargoyle snout, and I cried tears of happiness seeing her so at ease. I simply couldn’t stop gazing at her,” O’Reilly remarked.
O’Reilly remained by her side. She showered the pup with affection and built her trust.
Once Peanut Butter felt more at ease, her foster mom introduced her to their other dogs. Gradually, she began to engage in play with her furry foster siblings and relish their company.
Affection Transforms Everything
Initially, the pup felt anxious around Jonathan, O’Reilly’s partner, but eventually he succeeded in winning her affection.
Due to the altruistic devotion and steadfast encouragement of her foster family, the canine triumphed over her trauma.
Peanut Butter appeared to be an entirely different dog. Her face brightened with joy, and she began rolling in the grass and wagging her tail.
A young family with two little children encountered Peanut Butter and instantly fell head over heels for her. They knew right away they would adopt her and ensure she became the happiest dog alive.
Peanut Butter was wonderful with the couple’s son.
“She was incredibly gentle and kind with their child. He spilled an entire bag of treats on the pavement, and she instantly became his biggest supporter,” O’Reilly expressed.
Peanut Butter is relishing her new existence, and she couldn’t be more content. She adores her little humans and her furry siblings. The canine has finally discovered her joy.
