Can you envision having a dragon accompanying you wherever you travel, ensuring your safety at all times? Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?
Well, Mary Poppins has something quite comparable.
No, I am not referring to the movie version of Mary Poppins. I am actually talking about Mary, the Chicken.
As she strolls through her small domain, a.k.a., her garden, Mary is accompanied by a devoted guardian who treats her like the royalty she is – Harper!
Origin Tales
Harper, the dog, alongside her sibling, found their way into Emilie’s nurturing home after she learned that the two had no place to go.
Both had quite a substantial flea issue but nothing that could not be resolved with a bit of love and care. And, since Emilie was in need of a couple of reliable livestock guardian dogs, she eagerly welcomed them.
At that same period, Emilie received a call concerning a vision-impaired chicken. The owner, who managed a farm and an animal sanctuary, was knowledgeable about caring for blind creatures, so she consented to take in the chicken.
Emilie named the chicken Mary Poppins, completely unaware that two of her rescued animals would become inseparable companions.
An Unmatched Pair
Sadly, Mary didn’t quite mesh well with the other creatures on the farm. She faced quite a bit of bullying, leaving her feeling extremely unhappy and dejected.
The moment Emilie noticed this, she opted to bring Mary inside where she could supervise her more closely. Nevertheless, she wasn’t the only one who began to fret over Mary.
Harper took her protective role very earnestly, thus she became Mary’s personal guardian!
“Mary’s defenseless against predators so I was staying with her out in the dirt. Then I noticed that Harper just didn’t leave. It was like two or three hours of them both just being stuck in the same spot without moving, having the best time,” Emilie shared with Cuddle Buddies.
From that point forward, Harper accompanied Mary wherever she roamed, ensuring that she remained out of harm’s way.
Naturally, when Mary understood that she had a large dog at her side, she felt invincible.
Whenever the two were outside, Harper would flop onto the ground, always leaving room for her closest companion. And, she would not budge until Mary decided it was time to leave.
Witnessing the affection Harper shows towards the chick brings joy to Emilie’s heart.
“It warms my heart just to see them so happy together. I’m deeply appreciative of it. Particularly with Mary, I’m thankful for Harper allowing her world to expand a little and providing her with the chance to socialize and feel secure,” she summed up. Mary is finally able to enjoy a typical life, exploring everything her heart wishes.
And, no one dares to harm her with her gentle giant beside her!
