The harsh reality is that numerous fallacies frequently obscure our perception, and the same holds true in the realm of dogs.
Regrettably, certain canine breeds continue to be misjudged, even by individuals who interact with them regularly. I invite you to meet Anubis, a Rottweiler whose narrative dispels the enduring misconceptions about this breed.
To our astonishment, he was previously branded as “intimidating devil dog” by the very shelter volunteer who failed to recognize the gentle giant lurking within his tough persona.
All Anubis required was a bit more compassion and comprehension from those intended to assist him… Thankfully, along his journey, he encountered individuals who were ready to have faith in him and advocate for him.
Anubis – ‘The Fearsome Dog’
Upon arriving at Miami-Dade Animal Services as a two-year-old black and tan Rottweiler, Anubis was immediately perceived as hostile, demonic, and a beast.
As a street dog still entrenched in survival instincts, he was, of course, defensive towards anyone who initially approached him. This canine had been battling for his existence alone for an unknown duration and was simply very cautious around humans.
After all, those ‘very’ people had deserted him and left him to survive on his own without any essential means.
The shelter personnel at Miami-Dade swiftly deemed Anubis dangerous to be around, without providing him the necessary opportunity.
Anubis was confined to the back of the shelter, without any walks, due to his ‘aggressive demeanor’ and being heartworm positive. This treatment exacerbated the situation, nearly leading to his euthanasia.
One day prior to the deadline, a non-profit animal rescue organization named Humans And Animals United (HAAU), situated in Florida, learned of Anubis and fortunately decided to intervene and rescue this valuable boy.
“Some personnel at the shelter were intimidated by him, and Anubis wasn’t trusting anyone,” Rosa Fond, the founder of HAAU, stated to The Dodo.
Everyone at HAAU was aware that a friendly character existed beneath all that ‘tough’ facade, and they were resolute to uncover it.
Love Is All He Needed
Before Anubis could be united with his foster family, he had to unwind, rebuild his confidence, and collaborate with a trainer.
It demanded significant effort, but Anubis was eventually granted a chance, and that was all it required.
“It needed a great deal of time and patience, and I emphasize a lot! However, we provided him the opportunity he needed,” Fond mentioned.
Once Anubis exited the shelter, it became apparent that he truly was a gentle giant. This previously “aggressive” dog transitioned into a confident pup eager to share love.
“Upon leaving the shelter, he realized he was secure. He had a big grin and joyful eyes,” Fond noted.
Anubis was now at last prepared to meet his foster family and one unexpected family member, who soon became his big ‘little’ brother.
This large, ‘intimidating’ Rottweiler and tiny bearded dragon lizard immediately connected, but surprisingly, the lizard actually ruled this household.
“Anubis must seek the bearded dragon’s approval to enter a room or pick up a toy, as amusing and difficult as that is to accept,” Fond shared.

Both of them respect one another and share immense affection.
Anubis now relishes all the affection he receives from his human beings and his lizard best friend.
He has traveled a great distance from being a frightened and intimidating dog at the shelter who could hardly tolerate other dogs or people, to becoming the most affectionate ‘gentle giant’ imaginable.
He merely required a single opportunity… “The ‘aggressive’ rottweiler is now secure and cherished. The family that he is with now has gone above and beyond to shower him with love and promise him the finest future,” Fond expressed.
