As a previous dog owner, one aspect I find challenging to reflect upon is all the instances when he was frightened.
There were merely a handful of things he despised, fireworks standing out as one, yet his reaction was truly saddening. He would essentially be immobilized by terror, unsure of how to react.
His head would be pressed against the wall, unable to cope with the situation. We would consistently attempt to assist, but this type of fear was tough to manage.
It’s illogical, and not much can be done regarding it. However, a dog’s fear of humans is manageable.
We have often provided them with numerous reasons to resent us and respond accordingly, but it doesn’t have to remain that way.
In this narrative, we will share the story of a pittie who was so terrified of humans that she would evade them until she encountered her wonderful foster parents.
A Highly Afraid Pittie
When Poppy was initially presented to her new foster mother, Michelle, she was utterly terrified of meeting her.
She held a deep mistrust towards humans, and a considerable amount of time passed before that altered, but her new guardians did their utmost to assist.
During their first encounter, Michelle observed that she was transported in a cart and spent the entire time looking down.
She conveyed to The Dodo: “She was just hunched over trying to make herself as small as possible. It was a profoundly heartbreaking experience.”
Upon finally bringing her to the home in California, they had to modify numerous aspects to fit Poppy’s needs.
She was provided with ample space to roam freely, but in spite of this, the dog still refused to exit her kennel. She was simply that terrified.
Nonetheless, after several days, Michelle noticed a shift in Poppy. She actually ventured towards her and attempted to nestle her head into her foster mom’s lap.
It was endearing and the initial positive indication that she was beginning to trust other humans. Michelle was overjoyed by this and ended up in tears.
Poppy Is Evolving Significantly
The subsequent phase involved encouraging Poppy to engage with the outside environment, although it was quite challenging. Michelle remarked: “Each time you brought out a leash, she would scurry into a corner.”
It took some time, but she succeeded in persuading Poppy to calm down so her mom could place a leash on her. Following that, she was taken for a delightful, brief walk allowing her to finally enjoy herself a little.
Michelle observed just how much she thrived being around other dogs, which was excellent as it indicated she was forming connections with them.
In the duration she spent with her, so much had unfolded. She became considerably more outgoing and adored playing with everyone. While she still exhibited some timidity, her advancement was remarkable.
Nevertheless, her adventure with Michelle would soon reach a conclusion as she was relocated to another foster setting. Poppy’s foster mother felt quite emotional about this, yet she understood it was for the best.
Michelle stated: “We reached Rylee’s home. She attempted to flee in the opposite direction when we tried to bring her indoors, indicating she was still very much afraid.”
She encountered her new companion, Oak, upon arrival, and the two immediately bonded. Their companionship became indissoluble from that moment forward.
Rylee took them to many new locales to discover around California, and she regularly updated Michelle with videos showcasing how she continuously transforms over time.
When the moment arrived to determine Poppy’s fate, Rylee simply couldn’t part with her, resulting in a foster fail.
She decided to adopt this lovely pittie, and she is now enjoying her best life with a sibling and a mother who deeply cares for her.
