As the weather begins to cool down in Houston, Texas, Samantha and her partner, George, take pleasure in rescuing and fostering as many stray dogs as they can.
For numerous years, she has engaged in this mission, with her partner joining her over time. This is precisely how a Terrier mix called Boomer was saved.
He was inhabiting a nearby parking lot alongside three other feral dogs. Boomer appeared dirty and was limping; they later discovered he had been shot with a pellet gun.
Upon seeing his state, rescuing Boomer became their foremost objective, yet they did not abandon his companions.
While Samantha has a couple of dogs of her own, she still takes in around 10 to 20 dogs simultaneously.
Overcome With Anxiety
Boomer was extremely frightened from the outset. It required two days to capture and save him because any sudden movement would frighten him.
When Samantha eventually brought him to her home, Boomer was highly uncertain about everything.
“We attempted to call him inside, and it seemed as if there was an invisible barrier at the entrance, like he had been conditioned never to step inside the house,” Samantha recounted to The Dodo.
It was utterly heartbreaking to witness him struggle to even cross the threshold of the house.

Sadly, he was also in very poor health – he had heartworm and a ruptured CCL, necessitating significant surgery.
Displaying tremendous patience and love was essential to teach Boomer that the world is not such a terrifying place. Gradually, he began to become more comfortable.
“As long as you are nearby, he is incredibly joyful,” Samantha remarked. Just a month later, Boomer transformed into a completely different dog.
Transitioning From Street Life To Sweet Life
It wasn’t long before Boomer was adopted once he regained his health and fully recovered from surgery.
He was adopted via Dodge County Humane Society into a lovely family from Madison, Wisconsin.
Boomer – now referred to as Porter – is finally relishing his sweet existence, and he is no longer frightened of the house.
His new family had long been discussing getting a dog, so when they spotted Boomer’s picture, they instantly concluded that they needed to bring him home.
“He was quite at ease the moment he entered. He was beaming, and his tail was wagging. You could sense he understood he was beginning a new chapter,” Mike, Porter’s father, informed The Dodo.
Not only has Porter become a very joyful dog, but he has also infused immense joy into his new family.
“We’re truly thrilled about all the moments we’re going to share with him,” Mike expressed.
On Porter’s ‘adoptaversary’, his mom shared an update on his Instagram account:
“🐾 ONE YEAR 🐾 Happy ‘Adoptaversary’ to the sweetest dog who ever lived. It’s astonishing how fast a year flies by. We can’t picture life without your presence (especially in the kitchen), guiding us to the back door for walks, and most importantly, your warm cuddles.”
