Stray canines endure an isolated existence, lacking the opportunity to experience human affection. As they struggle to exist on the streets, they encounter threats that we can scarcely comprehend.
Once they are saved and taken to shelters, these dogs frequently carry emotional scars and anxieties that they must surmount to become genuine companions who can thoroughly enjoy their lives.
Our forthcoming narrative centers around Lala, one of those beleaguered, stray dogs who found herself at a shelter, trembling with trepidation. As she spent her days concealed in her kennel, she was unaware that her life was about to transform.
Overwhelmed With Trepidation
Lala was a resident at Family Dogs New Life Shelter in Portland, Oregon. She was apprehensive around humans and shunned interaction with the staff. Despite their best efforts to care for her and create a safe environment, the pooch remained despondent.
The shelter personnel reached out to Lee Asher, a canine rescuer and the creator of The Asher House, a charitable animal sanctuary in Oregon.
Upon his visit to see Lala, she cowered in fear beneath a table. Asher was profoundly touched by her state.
“I’ve encountered numerous frightened dogs, but there was something about this one that truly resonated with me.”
He began to sit on the ground beside her, conversing with her while attempting to earn her trust. Gradually, he inched closer to her, and before long, the pup permitted him to caress her neck. Little by little, Lala grew more at ease.
“She would approach and sniff me before darting away. She allowed me to pet her a few times,” Asher recounted.
Asher began to teach her the basics of walking on a leash. Initially, she would become frightened and shake it off, but eventually, she acclimated to the experience.
Lala Is Eager To Begin A New Chapter In Her Life
She was prepared to transition to foster care at his sanctuary. Though Asher recognized that she still harbored much anxiety, he was confident that his pack would aid in her recovery.
Lala appeared enthusiastic about accompanying Asher. She hopped into the truck before it was even open. Asher kissed her and assured her that she would have an amazing time at the sanctuary.
The charming canine nestled in Asher’s lap during the ride, sticking her head out the window. She was relishing her freedom trip home.
“I understood it wasn’t the most secure arrangement, but she was so eager to be close to me, and I couldn’t displace her.”
Upon their arrival at The Asher House, Asher was eager to introduce Lala to his canine companions. He desired for her to feel as tranquil and secure as possible.
First, he acquainted her with his smaller dogs who greeted her with curious sniffs. Subsequently, she met the larger dogs. Each one was thrilled to welcome her into their midst, tails wagging energetically.
Asher enveloped Lala in his embrace, wishing to ensure she felt cherished and right at home. Lala experienced love like never before, showering her dad’s face with affectionate kisses.
Discovering Her Place Under The Sun
He was overjoyed to observe that she integrated seamlessly into the pack. Lala transformed into a self-assured dog whose eyes sparkled with happiness. A broad smile adorned her face.
Asher recognized that this was indeed her rightful place.
“She was so liberated… She was in her element. This was the place where she was always meant to be. Traversing the trails and discovering new things, through the river. I don’t believe she had ever encountered water before. I will always remember that.”
Thanks to Asher’s kindness and empathy, Lala managed to leave her fears behind and embrace the warmth of the sun.
The lovely pooch adopted the name Ella. She is relishing her best life, enjoying hikes and swimming in the creek with her pack. Ella’s forever home is as perfect as it could possibly be!
