This lovely canine named Kenna arrived at Promise 4 Paws rescue in Orange County, California, after being forsaken on the streets by her former guardian.
She was frightened, reluctant, infested with ticks, and evidently very pregnant.
X-rays indicated that Kenna was anticipating three pups. Luckily, she found herself in a safe setting with individuals who sincerely cared for her welfare.
Awaiting The Puppies
Kenna moved to a remarkable foster home with Suzie Graf, who was able to care for her and assist in the delivery of her pups.
Initially, Kenna remained uneasy around humans, but due to the affection and concern from her wonderful foster mom, she began to slowly develop trust.
Unaware of her past trauma, they chose to take it slow, providing the attention and nurturing she required.
Just two weeks after being rescued, Kenna brought three adorable puppies into the world.
“Promise 4 Paws is excited to present Koa, Nalu, and Luana, who were delivered early this morning. We have a lovely mix of earth-tone shades, which I believe will reflect their delightful personalities. Mama Kenna is doing wonderfully, keeping them all snuggled together,” Kenna’s foster mother shared in her Facebook post.
One of Kenna’s puppies, Nalu, was born without hair, prompting the rescue to speculate that one of the puppies’ fathers could be a Shar-Pei.
Regardless, Kenna was an excellent mother, nurturing her puppies with utmost care. Her dedication was such that even a short separation from her little ones would visibly distress her.
At just eight days old, the puppies needed Kenna to undergo surgery at San Juan Animal Hospital as she had not expelled all three placentas, which could be life-threatening for her.
Fortunately, the operation was successful, and Kenna returned home shortly after to care for her pups.
Heading To Forever Homes
The puppies were flourishing and making incredible strides. They opened their eyes and began to explore their surroundings.
It was truly heartwarming to witness their growth in such a loving environment where they received the affection they truly deserved.
“We have identified the breeds of Kenna’s puppies💕. Two of them, Luana and Koa, are a Goldendoodle/Terrier mix. Nalu is a Shar-Pei/Doxie/Terrier,” Graf shared on Facebook.
At the age of eight weeks, it was time for them to begin their new lives in their forever homes.
Nalu, the charming Shar-Pei mix, was welcomed into the home of an extraordinary young man, Vicente Germann, where a lifetime of adventures awaits. The other two puppies were also adopted by wonderful families.
Kenna experienced profound sadness and depression during the initial days without her puppies.
“Her puppies have moved on to their forever homes, and Kenna is extremely sad. I’ve never witnessed a pet so heartbroken in my life. We are providing her with as much love and attention as we can,” Graf remarked.
After a span of ten days, she eventually began to eat, engage with other dogs, and relish life once more.
Kenna was ultimately adopted by her foster mom and has officially become a member of the Graf family in San Clemente, California, along with seven other dogs.
“She is an absolute treasure,” expressed her new forever mom.
Kenna transitioned from being abandoned on the streets with no one to care for her to becoming part of a large furry family that adores her immensely.
