When Eldad Hagar, the creator of Hope For Paws, along with his group of rescuers, learned about a homeless puppy named Houdini needing assistance, they were unaware that rescuing him would become a significant ordeal.
Houdini had resided at the harbor in Los Angeles for two years. The individuals at the harbor fed the puppy and cared for him from a distance, as he wouldn’t allow them to approach. A few of them aspired to earn his trust and take him home, yet Houdini evaded capture.
The harbor was a vast area, ideal for concealment.
Animal Control once successfully captured the elusive puppy, but Houdini found a way to break free. The rescuers from Hope For Paws were resolute in their mission to catch Houdini and transform his life for the better.
The Rescue Operation
The rescue crew, made up of four individuals, arrived at the harbor. They set up a trap and awaited the dog’s arrival. When Houdini showed up, he circled the trap and promptly dashed away. In that moment, the rescuers acknowledged that a more effective plan was needed.
The following day, Hope For Paws allied with Rescue From The Hart, creating a new strategy for capturing the pooch. This time, a group of seven individuals arrived at the harbor.
They attempted to construct temporary barriers at the harbor and secured the area with soccer nets to prevent the puppy from escaping.
The instant Houdini noticed the rescuers, he sprinted away as fast as he could. The rescuers chased after him, but the little magician vanished once more. After the rain started, the rescuers departed from the harbor.
On the third day, the team returned with ten rescuers. Each of them was hopeful that they would finally manage to capture the puppy and bring him to safety.
As they entered the harbor, Houdini emerged, seemingly to tease them. A few minutes later, he disappeared.
The rescuers brought extra soccer nets and barriers, ensuring that all exits from the Los Angeles harbor were closed off.
“There was just no exit from there,” Hagar stated.
The rescuers spread out, covering every section of the harbor. Each rescuer was equipped with their own net. They were eager to seize Houdini and rescue him from life on the streets.
The rescuers understood how terrified he was. They were desperate to hold him close and demonstrate that they were his allies.
Upon Houdini’s appearance, the rescuers sprinted after him, ensuring he couldn’t slip away.
Hagar successfully fastened a leash around Houdini’s neck. The puppy was frightened and attempted to flee. Loreta threw a net over him, resulting in Houdini’s rescue.
Experiencing The Gentle Touch Of A Human
The rescuers caressed Houdini, attempting to soothe him.
Hagar requested Mike, a security guard who had cared for Houdini for two years, to approach the puppy. Mike complied and gently stroked Houdini’s head. When the dog experienced the soft touch of a human hand on his head after such a long period, he began to calm down.
The rescuers transported Houdini to a shelter. Hagar softly petted his belly, and the fear dissipated from Houdini’s eyes. He reveled in his rescuer’s embraces and nuzzled into one’s shirt. The little magician felt secure for the first time in ages. He began to open up.
After giving him a bath, Loreta cradled him in her arms and cuddled with him. Houdini transformed into a lovebug, showering Loretta with affectionate kisses.
Houdini became a part of Rescue From The Hart and they arranged for him to have a foster home. Houdini cherished his time at the foster residence and relished the company of his dog buddies. They lavished him with affection.
It wasn’t long before the adorable Houdini found a permanent home. His family quickly fell in love with him. Houdini felt overjoyed to have a caring home and humans who cherished him. He would never again experience fear.
