Creating a secure refuge for wolf dogs is no simple task. It requires immense patience, empathy, and, above all, extensive knowledge. Nonetheless, Kim, from Arctic Fox Daily Wildlife Rescue in New York, accomplishes this with remarkable skill!
Throughout her years of offering these magnificent canines a safe space, Kim has poured immense love and commitment into her vocation, despite the hurdles she faced. Caring for Jacob was undoubtedly one of the most significant challenges!
Rescued from a neglectful breeder, Jacob struggled profoundly to adjust to his new environment, yet everything was about to transform in a matter of months.
Jacob Had A Difficult History
When he was rescued from a harmful environment in Tennessee, Jacob was a deeply traumatized wolf dog. He was extraordinarily difficult to engage with, despite the safe indoor setting and treats Kim offered him.
His level of fear and anxiety was so profound that he would tear apart every pillow and demolish every blind in her dwelling.
Nevertheless, everything shifted when Kim made the decision to integrate him with her other rescued wolf dogs in an outside sanctuary.
He instantly acclimated to the group and became a part of the “wonderful turmoil,” as Kim affectionately describes her dogs.
“Jacob might not be fond of me, but that’s alright – what excites me is observing how fit he has become now, and considering his harrowing past, I feel truly fortunate to provide this wonderful boy with a sanctuary to live in,” Kim shared on Facebook.
Even though he still shunned any interaction with Kim, he formed a bond with her young daughter, Ella. It appeared that Ella was the sole individual he felt comfortable around and he truly relished her company!
“I handle all the tough tasks, nurturing them and ensuring their well-being. Meanwhile, she receives all the affection,” Kim mentioned to The Dodo.
Jacob became remarkably gentle at accepting treats from Ella’s hand, and he absolutely loved spending time in the large backyard!
A Totally Transformed Dog After Their Reunion
Jacob still had a considerable road ahead, and Kim was well aware. However, upon receiving an unexpected call from her friend, Molly, who is affiliated with Walking Wild Rescue in Ohio, she promptly halted in her tracks! This was it. This was the call she had eagerly anticipated!
Molly informed Kim about Jacob’s brother, Vardan, inquiring if she could take him in, and without hesitation, Kim agreed.
Kim was thrilled at the prospect of reuniting the long-separated brothers, as she believed this event would significantly aid in Jacob’s social development. And indeed, she was absolutely correct!
When she first introduced Vardan into a small, secluded area of her wolf-dog yard, she witnessed a touching moment captured on her security camera. Jacob cautiously approached, sniffed his brother, and gently placed a paw on him.
He truly recognized him! And now, after such a long time, they were together once more!
This marks a pivotal moment for everyone involved, as from that point forward – Jacob was transformed.
Only weeks later, he began to emerge from his shell.
“A few weeks after Vardan arrived, Jacob actually took food from me through the fence for the very first time. Vardan is facilitating Jacob’s transformation even further,” Kim shared.
The brothers astonished Kim and her entire family. It was incredibly gratifying to observe how they interacted and appreciated one another’s company. Most importantly, witnessing Jacob’s remarkable transformation was a treasure!
“Understanding the trauma these boys endured at such a tender age, and now observing them stand confidently side by side while they physically and mentally develop into the formidable, captivating wolf dogs they were destined to be… together… it’s truly remarkable,” Kim stated in a Facebook post.
Kim couldn’t be more elated about the two of them. She will continue to provide Jacob and Vardan with a loving home, and these two large boys will undoubtedly have ample opportunity to embark on thrilling escapades together.
