Upon witnessing the condition of a dog, now referred to as Destiny, Sherry felt intuitively that, regrettably, this dog’s time was limited.
Sherry encountered Destiny while volunteering at an animal shelter. She simply couldn’t shake thoughts of her, and it was fortunate that she didn’t!
Incredibly Resilient Doggo
Destiny was severely underfed to the extent that her ribs were visible. Moreover, she lacked the energy to carry on, behaving as if she had already surrendered to her fate.
The shelter she resided in chose not to give her a name, believing she wouldn’t be there for long.
Sherry was utterly devastated… so much so that even upon returning home, she couldn’t erase this unfortunate dog from her mind.
“I couldn’t rest. Thoughts kept circling around that little red dog in, you know, kennel 251. So, the following morning, I headed down there equipped with treats and cheese,” recounted Sherry.
While at the shelter, Sherry was resolute about befriending Destiny.
She began tossing treats in her direction, hoping to earn her trust. However, upon noticing that Destiny showed no response, she opted to hold one treat in her hand and present it to Destiny.
Much to her astonishment, Destiny approached her, took the treat from her hand, and started munching on it.
After her little treat, Destiny snuggled up next to Sherry, who was softly stroking her, and drifted off to sleep.
I realized at that moment she was meant to be with me. I knew it was where she truly belonged.
Eternal Home
Initially, when Sherry brought Destiny to her residence, she appeared somewhat hesitant to enter.
Destiny paused at the entrance of her new dwelling and cautiously walked in, almost as if she realized she was about to embark on a new chapter.
Sherry was resolute in her desire to ensure Destiny’s well-being and happiness.
Given that Destiny weighed only 39 pounds, Sherry opted to provide her with smaller meals more frequently to help her regain a healthy weight.
In a span of six months, she transformed so much that she was unrecognizable as the same dog.
After a while, Destiny was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder that caused her facial muscles to weaken.
Despite this setback, Destiny refused to let it hold her back. She attends acupuncture sessions weekly and remains the most cooperative patient.
Whenever we arrive for her appointments, she recognizes the location and eagerly pulls me towards the entrance. She’s excited to greet everyone.
Naturally, after being such a wonderful pup, Destiny gets a very special treat with her name on the order on the way back home.
Conclusion
Destiny has utterly transformed her life. She now spends her days creating cherished memories with her mother and pursuing her newfound passion – playing with the hose.
Furthermore, apart from being the happiest dog imaginable, she has imparted a crucial life lesson to her mom and everyone else – never abandon hope.
She’s enlightened me greatly about the notion that regardless of how challenging things may seem, a recovery is always possible.
