There’s no more wonderful sight than watching a long-stay shelter dog discover his permanent home. However, seeing the same pup returned to a shelter again is utterly disheartening.
One such tragic tale unfolded in New Jersey, and it completely stunned me.
A dog named Burrito had been anticipating the day he could finally showcase his genuine nature in a new household. But, when that day arrived, instead of a lasting home, Burrito encountered yet another heartbreak!
A Message From Burrito’s Foster
Prior to his adoption by an elderly couple, Burrito enjoyed several wonderful weeks with his foster, Isabella.
Then the day of his adoption arrived!
A couple welcomed Burrito from South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter, New Jersey, but within less than two days, they opted to return him. They informed the shelter that the dog was simply too aggressive and bit his new dad on the hand.
“This dog was returned to the shelter in less than 48 hours after he was adopted for biting and being aggressive,” Isabella recounted in a TikTok clip.
Upon learning this narrative, Isabella felt both devastated and perplexed. How could such a cuddly dog like Burrito shift from being the most serene pup to displaying aggression in merely 48 hours?
What transpired?
What incited aggression in Burrito, or was it merely an excuse for them to return him?
She then chose to film a video, illustrating the dog’s sweet disposition.
In the clip, she showcases the most heartwarming cuddle session with this shelter pup.
“This is all he has done for the previous two weeks. This is what we share,” she noted.
After discovering the complete story, Isabella resolved to bring it to the public’s attention once again.
According to the shelter, Burrito nipped at his new owner when he attempted to remove him from the vehicle.
“They arrive home, and he wouldn’t exit the car. The husband reaches in, grabs Burrito, and pulls him out. Burrito disapproved of this, and nipped him on the hand,” Isabella explained in another video.
Even though he wasn’t particularly fond of her father either, Isabella mentioned that Burrito never exhibited any aggressive behavior towards him. He would simply maintain his distance, and that was that!
A Fresh Beginning
Returning to the shelter was not advantageous for Burrito, considering all the noise and anxiety caused by a cramped kennel environment.
Moreover, after finally experiencing freedom, imagine how heartbroken he must feel having to be confined in a small area once more!
Instead, this sweet boy with hauntingly beautiful eyes was transferred to another, long-term behavioral foster.
He’s presently not available for adoption and will spend his days decompressing. The positive aspect is – he will continue to enjoy a home just for him. And, when the moment eventually arrives, I’m entirely confident he will discover his forever home.
