Niq is among those little dogs who, despite their small stature, possess a great desire to live.
Even when placed in the most challenging circumstances, this resilient little canine triumphed over every challenge faced and ultimately enjoyed the life he rightfully earned.
Rescue Operation
Niq, the Chihuahua, regrettably suffered an attack from a group of animals in Southern California, compelling him to flee for his life and seek refuge beneath a car.
Huddled against one of the back tires, Niq patiently waited for the creatures to lose interest and disperse.
Fortunately, a few neighbors observed the entire incident and promptly reached out to Logan’s Legacy Dog Rescue, requesting assistance.
The founder of the rescue organization, Suzette Hall, promptly headed to the Southern California area, motivated to assist the frightened little dog.
“He had a pretty severe injury. Emergency surgery was necessary,” remarked Suzette.
Healing Process
Suzette successfully placed Niq into her vehicle and transported him to Camino Pet Hospital where a team of veterinarians were ready to provide immediate care for the little dog.
Although the surgical team successfully executed the operation, closing up his injuries, when Niq regained consciousness, he still showed signs of distress.
After he emerged from surgery, he started exhibiting very severe sickness. Then, he tested positive for parvo.
Parvo (or Canine parvovirus (CPV)) is a highly contagious virus that primarily impacts dogs. However, studies by petMD indicate that when treated, the survival odds typically range from 75% to 80%.
Sadly, besides recovering from a severe assault, Niq was now also confronting a highly transmissible virus.
However, displaying such strength and determination, Niq, with the support of his veterinary team, chose to tackle his challenges directly!
Fresh Beginnings
One of the veterinary technicians, profoundly touched by Niq’s determination, formed an extraordinary bond with the pup.
She would remain at the rescue center after working hours, spending time with Niq and engaging in playful activities filled with endless joy.
She made it a point to visit him every day after her shift. She became quite fond of him.
After a few enjoyable playdates, the veterinary technician proposed to Suzette that she take Niq home for the weekend to provide him with a cozier environment to recover.
Thrilled with the suggestion, Suzette agreed, and she was overjoyed to receive a remarkable message first thing Monday morning.
She had intended to take him home for the weekend, but she couldn’t bear to return him. She exclaimed, ‘I have to keep him. Can I please adopt him?’
From that moment onward, Niq became a jubilant member of a caring family.
Closing Thoughts
Niq was more than pleased to leave behind his previous life and welcome this new, improved one.
He is now entirely healthy, having fully overcome all of his injuries and even the persistent virus.
This was just one of those instances which reminded Suzette of how fulfilling her profession truly is.
He’s utterly happy and cherished. He has found the ideal forever home.
