It is my belief that every dog guardian gazes at their canine companion, perceiving them as the most extraordinary dog in the entire universe. Nevertheless, I’m quite certain we can all concur that the pup featured in today’s narrative is unique on an entirely different scale.

Mordecai, the most delightful dog ever, had a rather difficult upbringing. Nevertheless, fortune certainly favored him as he became part of a family that adores each of his idiosyncrasies.

And, despite having many quirks, one distinct trait truly stands out.

Lauren and Harrison discovered Mordecai via an Ohio-based rescue organization named Speak For The Unspoken. Unfortunately, Mordecai experienced a failed adoption, which left him devastated. However, the moment he laid eyes on the couple, all three were convinced they were destined to enjoy a wonderful time together.

Since Mordecai is deaf, Lauren and Harrison were confident they were well-equipped to care for him, given that they were already proud guardians of two cats with special needs.

Although detailed information about Mordecai’s past is largely unknown, the couple along with the staff from the Ohio rescue could clearly recognize it was far from a joyful experience.

“We could tell just by his behavior and various signs that he came from an abusive background in the south, evident from the types of people he fears and his reactions,” Lauren explained to GeoBeats.

Nonetheless, Lauren and Harrison were resolute in their mission to give him the finest life possible.

An Interesting Doggo

While his guardians think that having a deaf dog is quite fascinating, particularly as they don’t have to worry about him being frightened by doorbells and fireworks, certain drawbacks still persist.

“If he were to sprint away, we can’t call him back. For that reason, we have a GPS tracker on him. And when he is in the yard barking, we come across as terrible dog guardians since we cannot yell at him to come inside,” she mentioned.
