Expecting Parents Relinquish Dog Out of Fear of Breed Stereotypes

When a lovable Pit Bull named Shelly was relinquished to a shelter due to her family expecting a child, she felt disoriented, gloomy, and betrayed.

Regrettably, as it is extremely challenging for dogs of her kind to be adopted, Shelly was placed on the euthanasia list three weeks following her arrival at the shelter.

Shelly had lost all hope of joining a permanent family until a remarkable human discovered her unfortunate situation and decided to completely change the outcome.

Second Opportunity

As soon as Lacey, Shelly’s new guardian, learned that she was set to be euthanized the very next morning and “had to leave the facility that day”, she opened her heart and welcomed her into her warm home.

“Sadly, there are numerous pit breeds in the shelter that are in perfect health yet get ignored,” Lacey shared with Newsweek.

A committed volunteer at the shelter, Lacey recognized that Shelly could bring joy to many humans if only given the opportunity. Thus, she made the decision to lend a helping hand by bringing her in.

“We chose to foster because I believed she could find a wonderful home with just a little more time,” she added.

Over time, Lacey’s belief was validated; however, not in the manner she had envisioned when she first volunteered to foster Shelly.

“We had just welcomed one new dog, so we initially assumed that adding two more to the mix would be overwhelming. However, Shelly and our other new dog connected exceptionally well and felt secure with each other. Their bond was formed almost instantly. It was fortunate that they were both extremely well-mannered and friendly to both dogs and humans. Thus, I thought it was best to keep them together,” Lacey remarked.

At last, Shelly became a part of a family that cherished and loved her for her true self.

Shelly treasures her adopted brother and her new family. She also ensures to share her joy by greeting every human she encounters.

She is now living the life every pup dreams of! Her days are filled with joyful playdates, affectionate memories, and amazing adventures.

Eliminate the Prejudice

It warms my heart to know that this sweet girl was granted a second opportunity at life and has found her happily ever after.

Yet, it also brings tears to my eyes recognizing that she ended up in such a dire predicament solely due to her breed.

Many humans, unfortunately, are hasty to judge Pit Bulls for they believe all the stereotypes surrounding them.

Please understand that these gentle beings are no more hostile than any other breeds out there. They are exceedingly kind, devoted, and loving companions who will do anything to ensure that their humans always have a smile on their faces.

It is essential to discard these biases and acknowledge that every dog, regardless of their breed, deserves to be loved and treasured!
