That morning resembled every other morning. Kristin Erwin, hailing from Houston, Texas, was preparing to escort her son to a speech therapist, and she did not expect that anything particularly extraordinary could occur en route.
Contrarily, the situation unfolded quite differently because at one moment, as they were traveling, she unexpectedly spotted a white object in a ditch beside the road. Without a second thought, she halted the vehicle to explore.
Having already formed a suspicion of what it could be, she felt compelled to assist this helpless creature instead of simply passing by.
A Delightful Revelation
Before long, Kristin discovered that the sweetest surprise was concealed in the ditch. This white creature was a dog, specifically a stunning Labrador Retriever.
Sensing the distressed canine was quite frightened, Kristin resolved not to approach her directly but instead gently coax her. It proved to be a wise choice, as after a bit of encouragement, the dog emerged from the ditch and made her way to Kristin.
“She was really anxious,” Kristin informed The Dodo. “She was very shy. You could see that she craved interaction. She desired to be sociable — she was undeniably a friendly dog.”
Once Kristin observed that the dog had calmed down sufficiently, she encouraged her into the vehicle and drove her back home. As soon as they arrived, Kristin attempted to determine whether this dog had an owner. She looked for a microchip and even shared her profile on local platforms, but no response came.
Consequently, Kristin resolved that she would provide her a temporary sanctuary and named her Maddie.
Thriving in a Foster Environment
Shortly after Maddie’s arrival at her new foster home, Kristin conducted an examination to assess if she had sustained any serious injuries or anything of the sort.
Fortunately, there were no major issues, just a slight injury on her leg. Even that was swiftly addressed as Kristin promptly took Maddie to the veterinarian, who treated her cut, which healed promptly.
Initially, Maddie remained anxious and withdrawn as she adjusted to her new surroundings. However, with the love and support from Kristin, her son, along with their other dogs and a cat, she managed to overcome her fears.
Before long, Maddie began to exhibit her true nature and displayed a distinct personality along with an appreciation for the finer aspects of life.
“She adores toys, and she loves treats. I believe all these positive experiences significantly contribute to her adaptation,” Kristin remarked.
Thrilled with Maddie, Kristin had already developed a fondness for this dog. That’s precisely why she felt quite saddened that she could only be her temporary guardian.
Joyful Conclusion Approaching
Since Maddie was the 38th foster dog that Kristin had cared for that year, she could only offer her a loving environment temporarily. Nonetheless, she was determined not to give up on Maddie easily, as this dog had genuinely captured her heart.
Maddie quickly connected with the staff at Paddy’s Paws, a rescue organization situated in Fort Atkins, Wisconsin. She successfully coordinated with them so that they could provide assistance for Maddie and endeavor to find her a permanent home.
It is certain that this sweet furry girl, rescued from the ditch, won’t remain there for long. Given the interest already shown in Maddie, it’s only a matter of time before someone falls for her, just as Kristin did, and offers her the joyful conclusion she rightfully deserves.
