Canines are not innately equipped with the capacity to obey commands; they require training. Some puppies grasp this concept quickly, whereas others remain oblivious for a longer duration.
The innate method through which dogs convey their feelings is by barking, and this is quite normal. Nevertheless, certain dogs may excessively bark, leaving their owners struggling to curtail the behavior despite their best efforts. Thus, they sometimes need a significant amount of inventiveness and originality to tackle this issue.
The pet owners in Mendham Borough, New Jersey, demonstrated such inventiveness when they erected a notice in front of their residence to assist their Golden Retriever, Scout, in reducing his barking.
Only Well-Deserved Treats
One day, a woman named Meghan Kuhles was strolling through the streets of Mendham Borough, New Jersey, when she spotted a sign on the fence of a yard that intrigued her.
In line with the TikTok video she shared on her profile, @megan_catherine, the pet owners placed a cup of treats along with a sign instructing passersby to provide their dog with treats only if he refrained from barking.
It was evidently a straightforward effort by the owners to educate their canine companion to bark less, as illustrated by the wording on the sign: “My pawrents want me to stop barking.”
Even though Meghan was eager to reach into the cup full of treats, she refrained from doing so in order to honor the “rules” set by the owners of the dog. In her comments, she shared that the dog, unfortunately, barked.
Just two days later, another TikTok clip emerged from the same location but with slightly modified content. Specifically, the owners displayed a different sign, this time intending to train their Golden Retriever to sit. They encouraged people to command him to sit, and if he complied, to reward him with a treat.
It remains uncertain whether they made this change because Scout successfully learned to bark less and they decided to advance to the following challenge.
However, it is much more plausible that they simply gave up on that objective, as sitting is a relatively easier task for this Golden Retriever.
Many Reactions
The TikTok clip shared by Meghan garnered significant attention. While some users backed Scout’s parents in their clever approach to teaching their dog to cease barking, many leaned toward providing him with treats regardless of the result.
“I’d still give him a treat even if he did bork,” remarked one user.
“Aww I hope he got a treat 🥰,” a second added.
And a third humorously commented: “I’m sorry but I’d give Scout the treats anyway for being a good boy & alerting 😂”
We are confident that Scout is a genuinely good boy who will eventually conquer all the challenges his owners set for him.
Once he does, he will receive numerous treats from all the individuals whose hearts he has won over.
