It’s not uncommon for perpetrators to surrender themselves to law enforcement. They all eventually come around. However, this unusual dog from Odessa was no typical offender. His crime was being excessively cute, and he indeed turned himself in.
Chico is a Shepsky, a blend of German Shepherd and Husky. He’s a one-year-old canine who’s still a puppy at heart. His owner, Edward Alvarado, believed Chico would make a fantastic guard dog, thanks to his German Shepherd lineage. But the playfulness and sociability of the Husky characteristics prevailed.
He was simply far too amiable and enthusiastic to show affection to everyone rather than to guard and safeguard. Combine this with a curious disposition, and you’ve got a dog that cannot tolerate being unoccupied. This is why one night, Chico drifted away from his dad, unbeknownst to anyone.
It was 3 AM when Chico meandered into the Odessa Police Department, situated around a mile from his residence. The Shepsky entered casually, stood on his hind legs, and placed his paws on the counter as if he wished to report something.
The officers were taken aback. It’s not every day a dog walks in and does such a thing. Naturally, no one at the station understood canine language, so they all presumed Chico was seeking assistance. However, Chico showed no signs of distress or fear. He clearly wanted to have a good time!
And that’s precisely what he had. The officers at the station thoroughly enjoyed playing fetch with this puppy. Nevertheless, something had to be addressed. Images of the dog’s peculiar entrance were shared online in hopes that his family would recognize him.
Moreover, Chico was adorned with a collar, but his tags appeared to have been recently damaged. The only alternative was to contact Animal Control to come and check Chico for a microchip.
Concerned that Animal Control might transport him to a shelter, Chico fled. The officers could only speculate that the dog had gotten even more lost.
Fortunately, the tale concludes on a positive note. Chico was no longer missing. He actually navigated back home! He had known how to return to his owner all along! When Alvarado woke, Chico was right there as if nothing had occurred.
His entire escapade might have remained undiscovered if Alvarado’s cousin hadn’t shown him pictures of Chico he found online. The owner was astonished. He had no idea his pup could be so amusing. Alvarado notified the police, informing them that Chico was safe and at home. Everything was well.
The officers added to their post, stating that Chico was welcome to visit anytime he desired.
The entire escapade could have ended tragically, but fortunately, Chico was too clever to allow that to occur. His owner is ecstatic to have a bright dog who knows exactly how to act in case he ever gets lost again. Nevertheless, he’ll do everything possible to prevent Chico from his nighttime excursions.
We anticipate there’s more on the horizon from Chico, the night rider.
I wager Chico, the night rider, will pay the kind law enforcement officers another visit shortly!
