Not every dog is fortunate enough to commence his life adventure in a cozy residence surrounded by a caring family. Unfortunately, the formative years of some dogs are far from joyful.

One Pit Bull named Cider, who was exploited in unlawful dog fighting activities as a young puppy, stands as a stark reminder of this reality. Upon being rescued and taken to the Pennsylvania SPCA, a sanctuary situated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was in dreadful shape.

Nevertheless, thanks to compassionate individuals, he managed to recuperate and mend all of his injuries, both physical and emotional. Yet, more than two years post-rescue, he continues to patiently await his ideal family.

Despite the numerous trials, there are still those delightful moments when he can’t help but beam with joy.

Truly Special Moments

Though everyone at the shelter adored Cider, Lindsey King, the manager of volunteer programs at Pennsylvania SPCA, formed a particularly close connection with him. She felt grateful that Cider was still present, yet she observed that the shelter environment was beginning to impact him

“Living in a shelter can be challenging for dogs, especially those who have spent as long here as Cider,” King mentioned to The Dodo. “Cider remains a fairly cheerful pup, but we can notice that shelter life is affecting him.”

To lift his spirits and restore the smile to his face, she made the choice to take him to a park offsite where he could relish a lovely sunny day and frolic to his heart’s content.

“To uplift his mood and provide him a respite from kennel life, Cider – one of our longest-standing dog residents – recently enjoyed an amazing day offsite filled with exploration and cuddles.” Pennsylvania SPCA noted in their Facebook post

There was truly no limit to his exhilaration and delight as he dashed around the field and occasionally leaped into the arms of his favorite person. King’s heart swelled with joy during these touching moments, and she could not conceal her happiness.

Regrettably, along with all the joy these instances brought her, there was also a sense of sorrow.

Dreaming Of A Happy Ending

After the wonderful day spent with her furry friend in the park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, King felt a mix of emotions. Cider was, once again, heading back to his kennel.

“We can only wish that all his days could be like this,” remarked the Pennsylvania SPCA in their Facebook update. “With the right family, they can be.”

King expressed that this dog experienced a challenging beginning in life and would likely require some time to adapt to a new household. However, she also asserted that his future family would gain significantly in return – the unwavering affection that only a loyal companion can offer.

Although no one has yet shown interest in welcoming Cider into their lives, King and the other kind-hearted individuals at the shelter remain optimistic that this dog will encounter his ideal humans someday.

“We believe Cider’s people are out there,” they concluded at the end of the post.

Until they arrive, Cider will keep dreaming of a joyous conclusion.
