The tale of Honey is truly a sorrowful one.
Throughout her life, she lost her residence not just once, but on two occasions. All she desired was a snug little space she could call her own, yet fate had different intentions.
This adorable Husky was taken in by a family in Tampa, Florida, during the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center’s Adoption Event. When she finally arrived at her new abode, her joy was indescribable.
However, heartbreak struck, leaving Honey isolated yet again.
Abandoned For The Second Time
After five years in her initial home, Honey found herself in a shelter because a family member had developed an allergy. This tenacious girl endured everything, clinging to the hope that she would someday find another human family to care for her.
Then, when the moment finally came, Honey faced disappointment once more. This instance – it was deemed she was “boring.”
“The adopter realized she didn’t consume much while in their care and showed little enthusiasm for treats. She exhibited no interest in toys or playtime. Honey is exceedingly quiet, tranquil, and spends the majority of her day napping,” the volunteers shared on the Rescue Me Tampa page.
She was relinquished to a shelter, awaiting an uncertain fate, but fortunately, her stay there was brief. Thanks to Julie Bassett, the rescuer from Husky Life Rescue, Polk County, Florida, she was moved to a temporary foster home where she could finally unwind at her leisure.
Despite being perceived as a senior at ten years of age, Honey seemed profoundly despondent. Although she had the sweetest temperament and was affectionate, her activity level was very low – but there was a reason for that!
Shocking Surprise
It was revealed that Honey wasn’t boring at all – she was severely ill! Moreover, in an even more shocking twist, she wasn’t ten, but actually fifteen!
“Honey was taken to the veterinarian today. We have been informed that she is actually closer to 15 years old. Her liver and pancreas levels were significantly elevated. Additionally, she has a UTI and respiratory infection. It’s no surprise she was perceived as “boring.” Hard to muster motivation when you feel so poorly,” HLR expressed on Facebook.
Julie was disheartened by the revelations, but was determined to provide care for Honey as long as necessary. She was admitted to the North Polk Animal Hospital, and her treatment commenced.
Despite arriving in very poor condition, it took merely two days for Honey to start feeling better.
Thanks to medication and pancreatitis treatment, the veterinarians were able to successfully care for Honey. She is progressively beginning to feel like her former lively self again.
Regardless of her age, Honey is a true sweetheart! She relishes belly rubs and snuggles with the staff, and she certainly knows how to return all the affection she receives.
Honey is anticipated to make a full recovery, but she will require some time before she is completely prepared for a permanent home. For now, she is simply embracing the fact that she is safe!
