Regardless of their form, type, or dimension, creatures genuinely enhance our environment.

Not only are they exceptionally adorable, but they also strive to bring joy to our lives. This is attributed to their perception of us as companions rather than merely caretakers.

Fortunately, many humans share this sentiment as well. So, when an extraordinary woman discovered that there was an animal in need of her assistance, she responded without hesitation.

One summer morning while exploring Facebook, a woman named Ariel Poirier stumbled upon a post that moved her profoundly.

A neighbor was walking their adorable dog when they encountered an abandoned enclosure in the center of the street. Unable to take it themselves, the neighbor opted to create a Facebook post asking for someone to take it in.

Poirier instantly recognized what type of enclosure it was and who was concealed within its confines, so she hurried to the site.

“I promptly went to check if anyone had retrieved them yet. I adore animals and our natural surroundings — it grieves me to see any pet discarded (regardless of their size),” Poirier shared with The Dodo.

Following a substantial storm that struck their town the previous night, Poirier feared it had completely flooded the enclosure, and she was correct!

Additionally, she correctly predicted the inhabitants that were hiding inside. A note was affixed to the front that read:  “Free to a good home. 4 hermit crabs.”

Sadly, the enclosure was infested with mold, and the hermit crabs were entirely covered in gnats. She also observed that their shells were rather snug for them and had even been painted, rendering them hazardous for these little creatures to reside in.

Aware that they urgently required some care, Poirier would not squander a moment and promptly loaded the enclosure into her vehicle and brought them home.

A Much-Needed Makeover

The most remarkable aspect is that Poirier had been studying hermit crabs with the intention of having a tiny group of them. She was acquiring knowledge about the ideal habitat, how to construct it, and everything they require. However, she truly didn’t anticipate applying all that knowledge so quickly.

And, although this was quite daunting for her, Poirier was determined not to give in, so she opted to seek some assistance.

“I shared a post in the Land Hermit Crab Owners Society (LHCOS) Facebook group seeking advice. Someone involved in local rescue and fostering for hermit crabs reached out and provided (and has continued to provide) excellent guidance and suggestions,” “I received some food and supplies from [them] and a care package from an individual in the neighborhood Facebook group whose hermit crab had recently passed,” Poirier explained.

Thanks to the efforts of numerous compassionate individuals, Poirier successfully created one of the most fascinating habitats ever.

And, naturally, the little hermit crabs adored it!

Their new environment was not only spectacular but they also received new shells! This time, the shells were the appropriate size and free from harmful paint.

And, although Poirier had not anticipated becoming the proud guardian of such charming creatures this early, she could not be more delighted!

Having named them Peach, Krebs, Pierre, and Juniper, this little family could not have wished for a better conclusion!
