One of the responsibilities of a real estate agent is to assist individuals in locating a residence and a suitable habitat. This embodies the routine duties of a realtor residing in Sonoma County, California, known as Jake Denniston.

Nonetheless, this individual, besides aiding people in securing living spaces, excels in finding homes for abandoned animals as well.

He exemplified this on a particular day when he and his son encountered a small creature close to a playground in Sebastopol. They wasted no time in launching a rescue mission.

It Was A Frightened Baby

Jake’s son, Aonyx, spotted a small, furry lump on a concrete pathway adjacent to the playground they were at.

“We couldn’t discern what it was until we approached a bit closer,” Denniston shared with The Dodo.

They cautiously moved closer to avoid alarming it, and discovered that it was a baby possum.

Their hearts softened at the sight of such an adorable creature before them. However, they swiftly returned to the reality of the situation and understood that not everything was as perfect as it initially appeared.

“After observing him for a few moments, we concluded he was too small to be by himself so we contacted the local wildlife rescue,” Jake noted in his post on Instagram.

Upon sending a photograph of the possum to Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue, they concurred that it was unsafe for him to remain there alone, without his mother.

Young possums are highly dependent on their mothers and typically stay with them for an extended period. Therefore, this was not a typical condition for this baby.

Jake and Aonyx sprang into action. Lacking proper transport materials, they sourced an empty bag and some discarded clothing to provide cushioning. Denniston gently lifted the baby possum and placed it in a clean bag.

This little possum was finally on its way to safety.

Father And Son Were The Champions

Inside the bag, this young possum felt secure, and gradually, he began to open his eyes. During the drive to Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue, Jake and his son frequently glanced at the little one, marveling at him.

“I believe he sensed we meant him no harm,” Denniston remarked to The Dodo.

Upon their arrival at the rescue center, the possum received the nourishment and attention that he urgently required. Almost immediately, it became clear that this little fellow would indeed be alright and that he was destined to recover and return to where he belonged… in the wild.

Despite Aonyx feeling a pang of sadness over saying “farewell” to his little companion, he simultaneously felt immense pride in himself and his father. They emerged as heroes that day, and Aonyx discovered his calling as well.

“Aonyx is now an official animal rescuer,” Jake declared on his Instagram account. “It was quite the journey!”
