You believe you know someone…
When Dan and Kelsey Bradley decided to adopt their canine companion from a nearby Central Kentucky shelter, they assumed they were receiving a Doxie.
But, surprise – surprise, fate had different plans.
It appears that the adorable dog they received was not what she was purported to be.
Rather than a spirited yet affectionate Dachshund, Dan and Kelsey ended up with…
What A Surprise!
Carolina Honey Maybell was merely 10 months old when Dan and Kelsey brought her into their Kentucky residence. The incredibly sweet shelter girl was presented to them as a Doxie mix.
Raising a Dachshund puppy is quite an undertaking, and the couple was fully committed to the challenge.
“Being a shelter dog, we aimed to have a more comprehensive understanding of her so we could foresee any potential health issues or worries,” Kelsey Bradley shared with Newsweek. “We were informed she could possibly be a dachshund mix due to a surplus of unethical breeders in the area. We were told that someone left her at the back door of the shelter, and she seemed to be a runt.”
A pup that faced such cruel abandonment at the shelter finally found a home filled with affection, care, and love.
Life couldn’t get more pawfect!
Well, it turns out it could.
As Dan and Kelsey were uncertain whether they truly had a Dachshund mix pup, they decided to perform DNA testing on Carolina.
She resembled a Dachshund. She behaved like one as well. Surely, she must be a Dachshund, right?
*buzzer sound*
Incorrect.
Beautiful Carolina was actually a blend of Beagle and German Shepherd! What a revelation!
A Shelter Dog Is Our Favorite Breed Of Dog
Life doesn’t always provide what you desire; it offers what you require.
Kelsey needed a Beagle in her life to demonstrate how pawmazing they could truly be. Prior to Carolina, she had never wished to have one.
“We were utterly astonished by the results. Mainly because I had frequently told my husband that I didn’t want a beagle due to their destructive tendencies and instinct to hunt,” Kelsey stated. “However, she has become the funniest and most delightful surprise ever.”
Assumptions can be wildly inaccurate, can’t they? If Kelsey hadn’t dared to adopt a shelter pup, she never would have discovered that all breeds can be equally enjoyable, loving, and sweet. Example #1 – Carolina.
This new family member genuinely enriched their lives, but the one most delighted was Bradley’s first dog, Charlie. He desperately needed a friend like Carolina.
“We needed to provide our cherished Charlie with a buddy, partner, and companion. He was feeling quite lonely. Then we brought her home. He seemed utterly thrilled to meet a new dog,” Dan Bradley remarked.
Charlie was indifferent to the fact that Carolina was a Beagle GSD blend. All he yearned for was a companion… someone to share his day-to-day experiences with. And, that’s exactly what he received.
It truly doesn’t matter which dog breed you choose, anyway. Any dog can be an amazing companion, whether it’s a Dachshund, a Beagle, a Poodle, or even a Doberman. For genuine dog enthusiasts, the most cherished and beloved breed will always be the shelter dog.
Coat color is insignificant, and so is age, sex, and temperament. Once you rescue a shelter dog, your life will acquire immense value. You will be saving a life while enhancing your own at the same time.
Dan and Kelsey certainly had a delightful surprise with Carolina. Perhaps you are the next individual who will save a pup in need.
