For countless forsaken dogs, there is often one element that inflicts a significant amount of anguish. It’s their anxiety of being left once more.
It’s profoundly lamentable that they cannot even grasp the rationale behind it, yet it still impacts them greatly, and many find it tough to fully recuperate.
When they lose their self-assurance, they face considerable difficulty adjusting to new circumstances since they fear it may lead to their abandonment again.
This unfortunate pooch was caught in a similar plight. His family abandoned him at a shelter in California, and he struggled to acclimate. Luckily for him, he has someone willing to assist in his recovery.
Rocky Kanaka Aims To Assist
Upon entering Felix’s kennel for the first time, Rocky immediately recognized the extent of this dog’s distress. Right away, he perceived that fear was consuming him.
The pup continually hesitated, as if unsure of how to react. His dread of being abandoned rendered him too frightened to take any action, as he believed it might lead to further harm.
When he offered a small treat, the poor pup became frightened and simply looked away, attempting to avoid upsetting Rocky. He couldn’t comprehend that this man was there to assist.
Rocky settled on the ground and turned his back to provide Felix a semblance of comfort in his presence.
He observed the pup begin to move around slightly, but only after Rocky shifted his bowl of water. Felix seemed to be puzzled by why he kept approaching it.

Nonetheless, Alexis, the person who worked at the shelter, approached and shared some details about Felix. It seemed he had a family somewhere in California, but they never took the initiative to provide him with a collar or microchip.
The dog’s family informed Animal Control that they wished to be rid of him because he was hazardous and aggressive.
This bewildered Kanaka, who found it hard to believe this based on his observations. Alexis continued her narrative with an astonishing revelation.
She suspected that the owners fabricated the claim of the dog being dangerous to prompt Animal Control to intervene, as they treat reports of aggressive dogs with utmost seriousness.
While there was no concrete way to substantiate this hypothesis, it made sense, and Kanaka accepted it. He was appalled by this pup’s background.
After some time, Rocky saw a shift in the pup’s demeanor when he noticed other dogs approaching. He appeared to enjoy interacting with them, which was encouraging.
He even permitted Rocky to pet and cuddle him. He relished the affection, which indicated significant progress for him. At one point, it seemed he even gave a slight tail wag.
A Minor Step In The Right Direction
To facilitate his relaxation further, he attached a leash to him and encouraged him to take short walks around the kennel.
This proved successful, as he started to make small laps, which was wonderful. Following this, Rocky was intent on enrolling him in a dog-walking program, believing it would greatly benefit him.
He even secured a grooming appointment for him, which was highly needed. Post-grooming, Felix appeared even more charming.
The groomer returned him to interact with other dogs in the shelter, and it was then that everyone recognized just how joyful and sweet he was. He simply required some time and understanding.
Rocky is optimistic that this pup will ultimately emerge from his shell, and he intends to find him a loving family.
