While the majority of dogs enjoy spending their time pursuing their tails and barking at roaming squirrels or unfamiliar faces, Anya, an exceptionally clever German Shepherd, opted to take an alternative path.
She opened a door to a world that transcended the typical canine activities and chose to assist her mother with household tasks.
However, when a new kitten entered the household, Anya felt it was her responsibility to ensure that the new fluffy family member always had a companion to engage with.
This is the tale of Anya and little Munchie.
Anya Had Always Been An Attuned Dog
Upon adopting Anya as a young puppy, Lori Knoble, hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, quickly realized that Anya possessed remarkable intelligence.
Before long, she commenced mimicking the actions she observed and gradually aided her mother with domestic chores.
Lori remarked that Anya would often poke her head into the dryer while she was doing laundry, but one day, she began taking the clothes out of the dryer and passing them to Lori.
After she had mastered the laundry, Anya ventured into other household tasks, including retrieving items that had fallen and fetching the remote control, and even disposing of trash in the bin.
“Whatever I’m doing, she simply wants to lend a hand,” stated Lori, Anya’s mother. “If I open the dishwasher, she’ll pass me a dish, or if I’m taking out the rubbish, she attempts to grab it from my hand.”
Anya was able to accomplish all this independently, simply by observing her mother’s actions.
“One day I was bringing in groceries; she just picked up a bag and followed me inside. She inherently wants to assist,” Lori explained.
Welcoming The New Kitten
One day, while Lori and her spouse were at the car wash, he kept insisting that there was a kitten residing in the dumpster.
Indeed, there was a terrified little kitten crouched beneath the dumpster. Lori simply couldn’t abandon it, so they made the decision to save her. They named her Munchie.
Initially, they confined the kitten in a crate in the basement since she was quite frightened.
“There’s a kitty door leading into the basement, and Anya would just sit by that kitty door, peering through, simply staring at her. She was so eager to meet her.”
They began gradually bringing the two together, but the pair quickly formed a bond.
Munchie possessed a shoelace that she adored playing with, so one day, Anya simply picked up the shoelace and started dragging it around the house, engaging with the kitten.
“She is the one who assisted Munchie in adjusting from being isolated in the basement to being with the family,” Anya’s mother expressed.
Anya then began gathering all of Munchie’s toys and playing with her. She intuitively understood that Munchie felt scared and required some support.
“I get quite emotional reflecting on it, but Anya is genuinely an angel. It’s profoundly touching to witness little Munchie with her, and it’s extraordinary to observe what she accomplishes daily,” Lori shared with The Dodo.
