Reaching the age of 100 is an extraordinary achievement by itself, but the chance to commemorate it with a spectacular dog parade is all that any passionate dog enthusiast could hope for.
For Dr. Robert Moore, a retired head of science and applied arts from San Jose State University, this dream became a reality.
His daughter opted to organize a surprise birthday celebration and thought inviting a few neighborhood dogs would be a wonderful choice.
Unbeknownst to her, this small gathering transformed into a grand dog parade…
An Unforgettable Day
Having always been a devoted dog enthusiast, Dr. Moore found the idea of celebrating his 100th birthday with a few neighborhood canines to be fantastic.
Alison Moore, his daughter, chose to share a post on the Nextdoor app, inviting individuals to bring their dogs to his home to wish Robert a joyful 100th birthday.
Alison mentioned to NBC Bay Area that they anticipated 20 to 30 dogs at most, but the turnout was astounding.
The two-legged and four-legged community of San Jose united to create a day to cherish.
More than 200 dogs and their owners appeared, lining up along the street from Dr. Moore’s residence and around the corner.
The dogs were adorned in their finest outfits, ranging from tuxedos to cowboy hats. One dog cruised in a vintage car, and there was even a handicapped dog pulling his cart.
Even though they were unfamiliar with Dr. Moore, individuals brought gifts such as flowers, balloons, cupcakes, and even artistic drawings and placards.
One woman, without a dog of her own, brought along a large stuffed canine toy on a cart to extend her birthday wishes to Robert.
“They were primarily strangers, and it truly enhances one’s appreciation of the community that people would volunteer to come out and do that for your beloved father. It was genuinely special,” Alison shared with NBC Bay Area.
It Was An Exciting Four-Legged Event
Robert was genuinely shocked by the entire affair and couldn’t have felt more thrilled.
Everyone who knows Robert describes him as a “dog whisperer,” and he was able to identify every single breed of dog he encountered that day.
“My father, he was so moved. He caressed every single dog that went by. Every individual brought their pooch to him. It was simply delightful,” Alison expressed to NBC Bay Area.
Alison remarked that this was the most significant event their family had ever experienced and undoubtedly one that has brought overwhelming happiness.
This was unquestionably a birthday celebration that Robert and his entire family will always remember.
“It’s difficult to articulate how unique it was. He genuinely felt the birthday affection,” Alison concluded.
Below is the video of the dog parade, created by Robert’s granddaughter, Caroline Moore:
