In her choice to adopt a rescue dog, a dedicated cat owner decides to defy expectations and invite an endearing Chihuahua and Pug mix into her home, which is primarily occupied by her felines.

Unbeknownst to her, this journey would reveal a blossoming affection for dogs that she, like many others, never realized was absent from her existence.

Cricket, a charming yet unique Chihuahua-Pug mix, swiftly became an immensely cherished member of the household.

Prior to joining her forever family, Cricket hadn’t exactly begun her life on a high note. Together with another tiny puppy, she was abandoned outside the local shelter.

“Cricket had been left with another puppy. They were both just left in a cardboard box outside the shelter steps in early February. When the shelter staff came in a day or two later ‘cause they had been closed for the weekend, they discovered her and the other puppy,” Tanya, Cricket’s mom, shared with GeoBeats Animals.

Cricket was subsequently adopted, but regrettably, she was also returned to the shelter because the new owners had allergies.

This led to Tanya and her family opting to adopt Cricket.

Since her adoption, little Cricket has undergone multiple surgeries to rectify her legs due to certain hereditary abnormalities.

It took four operations to restore her health, but fortunately, she has been progressing remarkably well.

“She’s got a big old plate in there and some pins in there, and the other leg still had wires in there. But she’s done really well,” said Tanya.

Cricket spreads happiness to everyone around her, and she is adored by all. Among the family’s friends and colleagues, she has become a real star.

“You would never guess she’s ever encountered anything unfavorable in her life. Even during her follow-up visits post-surgeries, she exhibited affection towards everyone present,” Tanya remarked.

Cricket may be petite, but she possesses an immense zest for life and a tremendously positive influence on everyone she encounters.

A Chihuahua-Pug hybrid is a delightful combination of the two breeds, often referred to as a Chug

They are compact canines with large, playful personalities, much like Cricket. She embodies the perfect blend of the two breeds, being extremely expressive and affectionate.

Cricket has a quirky manner of pushing her lower lip out whenever she truly desires something, with the extent of her yearning directly correlating to how far that lip protrudes.

“She adores cuddling, and when I’m at home, she’s essentially glued to me all day long. When I’m away, she is either clinging to my mother, my son, or my husband,” Cricket’s mom noted.

Each of them serves as Cricket’s emotional support humans!

The amusing part is that Tanya had always identified as a cat owner, and she never envisioned owning a dog until Cricket entered their lives.

Fortunately, the cats accepted little Cricket, embracing her as one of their own, but having only been around felines her entire life, she has begun to behave like a cat.

Thus, she grooms herself like a cat following her meals and engages in various peculiar cat-like behaviors. “She’s just never been around dogs, so she doesn’t truly understand how to act like one. Even my son calls her a cat,” Tanya expressed.

Cricket has dramatically transformed Tanya’s life, leading her to become a dog mom in a way she never anticipated.

Psst! Don’t inform the cats, but there’s a chance that Tanya might adore Cricket more than her felines simply because she is that amazing.
