Occasionally, even the most innocent solitary escapade of a family dog may transform into a genuine ordeal. To compound the situation, numerous dogs that stray off in an effort to explore rarely find their way back home.
More often than not, they find themselves on a roadway or at a kill shelter where nobody specifically tends to them.
Nonetheless, this German Shepherd was among the fortunate few, as he found himself in the compassionate hands of the Cleveland Metroparks Police Water Rescue Team alongside the Berea and Parma fire departments…
The Dog Couldn’t Escape On His Own
No one is aware of how this black-and-cream German Shepherd found himself on a rock amid a turbulent river in Cleveland Metroparks, Ohio, but it was evident that he was trapped and unable to escape.
Upon being spotted helplessly perched on the rock’s edge, the Cleveland Metroparks PD in Ohio was alerted. They arrived at the scene remarkably fast, but the team quickly realized that they were not equipped to assist this dog alone.
The CMPD Needed Additional Assistance
The CMPWR, in collaboration with the Berea and Parma fire departments, acted as the supporting arm of the Cleveland Metroparks Police Department.
They united to assist this unfortunate canine, and although it wasn’t an easy task, they somehow succeeded!
The Rescue Was Complicated Due To Swift Currents
Retrieving the dog proved to be quite challenging due to swift currents and restricted river access. The rocky landscape further complicated the extraction using conventional techniques. Consequently, the rescue team opted to adapt their strategy…
To extricate this German Shepherd from the rock where he was marooned, the rescue team employed a ladder.
They fashioned a bridge with it leading to the rock where he was trapped. When one of the rescuers finally reached the dog, they placed him in a basket alongside the rescuer and hoisted the basket back onto the ladder.
This approach was precarious as neither the dog nor the rescuer within the basket was fully secured, yet they managed to execute it without sustaining any injuries.
German Shepherd Successfully Returned To His Owners
It turns out, the German Shepherd was not a stray… he actually had a family. Once he was successfully rescued from the river, he was reunited with his owners.
His cooperative demeanor and wagging tail clearly indicated his gratitude towards those who saved his life. The H-6 Photo shared images of the rescue on their official Facebook page with the following message:
“Excellent work by all involved agencies! No injuries were reported.”
